We the undersigned,
- Support the GAI (Guaranteed Annual Income) - also known as CI (Citizens Income) - as a solution to persistent poverty in Canada.
- Support the full maintenance and improvement of the EI (Employment Insurance) and CPP (Canada Pension Plan) programs toward full universality.
- Support the elimination of means-tested welfare to be replaced by the GAI as a universal social right of Canadian citizenship.
- Believe this is a requirement for Canada to meet the UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) objectives in achieving income security, social inclusion and human dignity for all of its citizens.

- It's important that the GAI be set above the "low-income" floor set by Statistics Canada. While there is much navel-gazing about what programs are necessary to eliminate poverty in Canada, it is clear that an adequate GAI provides the best solution. This is not a replacement for all other social programs, by any means, or a panacea for all of society's problems. But it is the solution to poverty.

- Often the most valuable work done in society is non-paid work. The only way to fully recognize such important work is through a Citizen's Income. It also recognizes that all citizens have a rightful share in a democracy to the wealth of the nation - it is unsustainable to concentrate wealth in fewer undemocratic corporate hands.

- I agree with Bob Barnetson, "social rights ought to have the same stature as civic and political rights." A GAI would be one way to ensure this and, with sound design, could be the single most important means for eradicating poverty.

- Assigning the title of 'welfare state' to Canada is a gross euphemism, especially thank to the neoliberal programs.

- Since we have experience that so many other solutions to poverty are not working and poverty is growing, this should be a priority to study and implement as soon as possible.

- Canada is one of the richest Countries and yet it has allowed poverty to exist. It is time that Canada began to invest in its people. Povery is unnecessary in society today. The United Nations has found Canada in violation of the International Covenent several times, and it is about time that Canada stood up to its obligations. All Canadians have a right to Adequaticy in food, educaton, housing, and clothing. We all have a right to medical services and the Canadian Government has been falling down on their responsibilites to its citizens. A Guaranteed Income would certainly be a good first step in giving people the things they need for their success and ensure the betterment of society in general.

- GAI is an appropriate and effective way to reduce poverty and ensure a fairer distribution of wealth. In our current system increasingly more people are left behind, while a few reap dispropotional benefits on cost of their debilitating poverty.

- the guaranteed annual income must also be a 'livable' income - enough to survive, not like starvation welfare!
