The honorable Minister of Social Welfare of Bangladesh declared that the words 'Golden Citizen' shall be printed on the national identity card of persons with disabilities (PwDs) to give them 50\% service fee reduction on transportation, housing and medical facilities. It is a hugely laudable action.

However, most aware PwDs believe that implementing the "Golden Citizen" idea is truly not necessary. Rather, we can use the symbols that are already in use globally. Using these symbols is a win-win situation; for on the one hand it will allow our countrymen to get familiar with these symbols, and on the other hand, it will uphold the honor of PwDs. Putting the term "Golden Citizen" on National Id cards is just adding another inappropriate label on to an already heavily stigmatized group.
