We were made aware of another increase in the price of Diageo related products last night in the Lotts, Liffey Street. I cannot say whether other products were increased but more than likely it was an increase all around as Heineken move to increase their costs. These measures are in advance of next week's Budget in which the price of drink and cigarettes are more than likely to be increased as an economic drive to stabilize the recession.
The increase in Guinness in two years is nothing short of robbery. A pint at the end of 2004 was 3.90 for Guinness and in 2006 , 4.10. Now pre-budget 2008 the price is 4.70. Carlsberg is now 5.20. With the budget we can expect a pint of the black stuff to hit around 4.90 and upwards obviously in 2009.
While none of us doubt the quality of a pint or the homely factor of the Lotts, I thik it's about high-time the establishment should be taking the hit rather than us the punters.
It is grossly unfair that we are getting caught for this again.

- Saying that "we are only charging what everyone else in the area is charging" is not really a valid excuse. While Lott's can rely on passing trade, the heart and soul of the bar I fear will be lost if prices continue to rise as they have done in the last 2 years.

- Very Harsh, classic case of corporate profit at the exspense of the little man.
