For the past three years, the Youngstown Steelhounds Hockey team has offered sports fans across the Mahoning Valley the opportunity to enjoy professional hockey at the beautiful Chevrolet Centre. On June 2, 2008, the league which the Steelhounds were apart of for their first three seasons, the Central Hockey League, announced that the Steelhounds would no longer be apart of their league in future competition.
Since the announcement, the management and ownership of the Steelhounds have begun to look over their options as they look to play hockey this fall. One option would be to join the six team International Hockey League this fall. Another option would be to sit out a year and to join the East Coast Hockey League for the 2009/2010 Season.
We as dedicated Steelhounds fans believe it would be in the best interest of the organization to sit out a year and to work over the coming months to become members of the East Coast Hockey League, which has teams in nearby Cincinnati, OH, Toledo, OH, Dayton, OH, Wheeling, WV, and Johnstown, PA. We do not believe it would be wise to rush into the six team IHL. The competition level of the ECHL is more superior than that of the IHL and the ECHL offers better geographical rivalries for the Steelhounds.
We ask that you please sign this petition in favor of the Youngstown Steelhounds Organization to sit out a year in order to join the East Coast Hockey League for the 2009/2010 Season. Thank You!

- I am a Wheeling Nailer fan, and would love the Youngstown Steelhounds to join the ECHL.. It would be a great rivalry, and a chance for road trips, and make some new friends

- I do not want the team to rush into anything, and make a bad decision. Lets make the right choice this time.

- I am a season ticket holder and would like to see us in the ECHL even if it means not having hockey this year. I think the ECHL would be a better league to be in than the other choices available at this time.

- If I'm going to buy season tickets, I'd rather see an ECHL game than an IHL game. Probably would no buy season tickets for IHL.

- If the hounds could play one year of IHL and then join the ECHL that would be ok, but if it is one or the other I would rather the team waited and did what was necessary to get into the ECHL.

- It would be best to go dark for 08-09 and put ALL energies to joining the ECHL. It's better hockey, create better rivalries, closer road trips for both team and fans to rival arenas and possibly better ticket sales at the Chevrolet Centre from both Valley fans and neighboring ECHL cities.

- I'd like to see the Steehounds make the good decision to get into the ECHL rather then make a quick fire decision to just join any league like the IHL. Hockey is the best thing to do in Youngstown.

- As a member of the crazy fans in Sec. 217, I would like to see us in the ECHL. We could make some of the road trips and support our boys on the road, like we do at home. And make new friends. Plus attendance at the Chevy Center would go up due to visiting fans. Win win situation all around.

- Excellent plan - the ECHL is where the Steelhounds belong! I disliked the CHL - it's a goon league as is the IHL.

- Would love to see your organization join the ECHL. I am a fan based in Reading,Pa. and have loved this league. I would petition the league and you could probably be in the league for 2008-2009. The league redid the schedule when Cinncinati applied a few years back at the last minute. Hoping to see you join the league and best of luck on whatever your organization decides on your future.
