We strongly urge that you adopt an R18+ rating into the video game classification system here in Australia, to not only comply with the media standards of all industries, but to also comply with those of the rest of the world.

For years we have been forced to receive video games with either removed or censored/edited content, or the games themselves have had a total ban. The latest in particular is the soon to be released and highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV from Rockstar Games. This will be their fourth title since Grand Theft Auto III that has been edited and censored to comply with Australian OFLC Rating on video games, and it needs to stop.

We feel that an R18+ rating is reasonable for video games with today's in-game content, and would be sufficient in controlling the market by providing a strict mature target audience, therefore allowing for us 'Aussies' to get the full, unedited video game experience we should be getting, which we deserve to get.

    • I don't see how the gaming industry should be treated any different to any other form of media. It's time to adopt the R18+ classification.

    • It's ridiculous that we are still yet to have a rating system in line with other entertainment (movies, music etc) for games. The sooner we get a unified rating scheme the better!!!

    • We need the R18+ rating.. not all gamers are children. We shouldn't have to put up with censored games when you can see far worse stuff on tv. Parents should take responsibility for what their kids are playing the same as they do with what they watch. So why do the rest of us have to suffer? Several games even have parental locks.. if GTA had this feature would it still have to release an edited version to us?
