In 1998 I saw a small independent film called Velvet Goldmine. As colorful, camp, and kitsch as the movie was, it was the soundtrack that caught my attention. I went to work the next day, to the record shop in Los Angeles that I work at, and immediately began to play the soundtrack. My friend/co-worker Donald pointed out two little songs on the end of the CD. They were a cover of "Tumbling Down" and the original "Make Me Smile (Come up and See Me)" by Steve Harley. He told me stories of when he saw Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel perform back in his home state of Michigan in the '70s and recommended a few albums for me to check out. I was instantly hooked. From "Human Menagerie" to his current live albums...I loved them all. My only hope was to catch a live show of his, acoustic or otherwise. He is continuously gigging around the UK and Europe but has never managed to tour the US since the seventies as countless believe that he doesn't have many fans on this side of the pond. However, I have met a several fans from New York online, as well as some right here in LA. The CD's of Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel that we stock at my store continue to sell, so I'm certain there is a dedicated Steve Harley fan base right here in the LA! Steve Harley may have several reasons for not touring the US, but it is my objective, that with this petition, one of his reasons will NOT be for lack of fan base! So please, if you are a resident of the United States, especially of Los Angeles, sign the petition and maybe, just maybe, some time in the future we may get to see the elusive Steve Harley live...in the US!!
Please, Mr. Harley...come to the US!!
