The purpose of this petition is to allow the horse owning and non-horse owning public to voice their concern over the growing problem of starvation and neglect cases that are on the rise due to lack of options to dispose of unwanted horses. Since there is no operating Slaughter facilities in the U.S., the horse market has declined dramatically in that horses have lost their salvage value. If that isnt enough, thousands of horses are now being trucked out of the country to Mexico and Canada, to be processed. This has done nothing but prolong the suffering of these animals, extended periods of time spent on trucks with no water, food or rest. In these tough economic times, people are losing their jobs, their homes and many are faced with tough decisions. Their horses will only be an after thought. There are news reports coming in daily of abandoned animals left to fend for themselves from all over the country. This is no joke, this is by far a worse fate than being sent to slaughter where they will be utilized and processed humanely. Many people will not spend several hundred dollars to euthanise their horse, but instead, will abandon or turn the animal loose. We feel that there is indeed an enormous need for humane slaughter as a safety valve for people who have no other choice. We also feel that there is a great need for legislation in the humane transport of all animals destined for slaughter. WE URGE YOU TO OPPOSE ANY LEGISLATION TO RESTRICT THE HUMANE SLAUGHTER AND TRANSPORT OF HORSES IN THE U.S.

- This is an epidemic!!! We NEED to have slaughter available in the US for the welfare of horses. It is recognized by the AVMA as not only a humen method of euthanasia but also a preferred method. PLus in a green world, it is using currently WATED energy sources with 100\% of the carcass being used and it would stimulate the economy by bringing money into the US from other countries again while also stimulating jobs and revenue within our country with a ripple effect from MANY industries.

- I totally agree we Do NOT need Horse slaughter in America nor for Exports its a proven fact that the slaughter industry is a inhumane and greedy business promoting abuse and neglect nor do these pro slaughter freaks care about the drugs in horses today. We support HR 503 for an Urgent passage.

- Allowing unwanted horses to graze freely, fatten up, (which should be a requirement on the slaughterhouse grounds); in full view of the American public would be the best option for the unwanted and very often neglected animals. The method of slaughter could then be controlled and monitored. It simply makes sense for all concerned, especially the horses we claim to love but then turn a blind eye to the horrific journey and end they face outside of our borders.

- We need a place to dispose of sick or dying animals along with those that have behavioral problems that are threats to people. The money that it takes to dispose of these animals is far beyond the ways and means of owners who can't afford to dispose of them any other way. Humane disposal, of course is a must. The money received from the animal does in no way cover any cost that was incurred by the owner.

- There has to be some slaughter plants in this country to take care of the old, crippled, and crazy horses. Currently we are only shipping the good horses to slaughter in Canada and Mexico because of the issues with transportation.
