Transition Heathrow faces eviction from Grow Heathrow, its squatted garden in the heart of Sipson.

After occupying the site on 1st March 2010, the plot has provided local residents with a space to start building more sustainable and more resilient Heathrow communities after the dropping of the 3rd runway. Residents and activists have worked together to turn the derelict piece of land back into a thriving market garden. 30 tonnes of rubbish have been removed and two of the greenhouses have been completely re glazed. There have also been many workshops and events such as permaculture courses, growing workshops and a well attended banquet.

Grow Heathrow is at the heart of the Transition Heathrow project, and the looming threat of eviction leaves it with an uncertain future. The land has become a community hub and a model of sustainable living and self-sufficiency. Please ensure the future of this exciting space by signing the petition to save Grow Heathrow!

    • The Grow Heathrow project has brought the community of Sipson together by spending time and energy investing in a local, sustainable project . I believe it should be allowed to stay for the benefit of residents and the wider community as a working model for community food growing projects everywhere.

    • This has been a remarkable use of derilict land for a positive and community boosting project, which has far reaching ideals and goals and should not be stopped - it should be encouraged

    • People fear their community will be wiped out by a massive new runway, at a time when fuel consumption threatens global wellbeing. They respond by reclaiming derelict land and resources for a sustainable food-growing project that reaches out as an educational resource. Answer? Eviction?

    • This seems to be a perfect example of Cameron's 'Big Society' - people who have worked hard together to build a real community and reclaimed what was a crime blackspot and turned it into something good and useful. Society should be praising these people, not threatening to evict them.

    • If any way can be found to keep this excellent initiative going, I urge the authorities to take it. It's much too good to lose.

    • Grow Heathrow sounds Great. Just the sort of thing we are hoping to develop on a piece of land in the middle of Our Community. This type of activity & Community centre should be actively encouraged & be used as a model for other Communities to come together & become self sustaining. What a waste & erosion of community if this area of land were to be left to become a dump again, or even developed in another way. Well done Transition Heathrow & Heathrow Community. May You & Grow Heathrow continue to thrive. What a great example you are setting. Good Luck. Let us know how you get on, hope you are allowed to stay. Would love the opportunity to come & visit , pick up some tips & inspiration.

    • As far as I can tell, Transition Heathrow have had nothing but a positive impact on the land which they now live on, the community of the surrounding area, and the environment of the world. They are an inspiration to everyone that each and every one of us can positively change the problems which we see around us into solutions for the benefit of all. That is everyone - the police, politicians, plane companies and public courts. All are benefiting from the positive impact which Grow Heathrow is making on the world; therefore if you evict Grow Heathrow from the site, you are evicting yourselves from responsibility to be a part of solutions to the problems you see in the world.

    • I visited Grow Heathrow with Southampton University Green Action earlier in the Summer and found what's being done there a great inspiration for how community projects should work. If they are evicted then the land will return to being a car dump instead of a vibrant food growing project with the enthusiastic support of the local community. Let them stay!

    • Wake up to the future...This is GOOD. This is PRODUCTIVE. This is building COMMUNITY. Forget greed and profit and wastefulness. This is the way forward. Wake up! Keep Grow Heathrow Alive - it is needed in our society now! To evict the people and return the power to the useless landlord would be senseless. He doesn't deserve to keep that land!

    • Communes and alternative living spaces spend so much time in England being threatened by planning permission and other negative issues. In a world with so much immediacy (which is probably another reason for extending heathrow and make more flights available quicker), of doing everything RIGHT NOW. Take some time to appreciate the more basic and beautiful things in life. I don't mean to sound like a total hippy, but sustainability is truly one of the last hopes we have these days of being able to continue leading lives more positive and less selfish in terms of impact on the world.
