Transition Heathrow faces eviction from Grow Heathrow, its squatted garden in the heart of Sipson.
After occupying the site on 1st March 2010, the plot has provided local residents with a space to start building more sustainable and more resilient Heathrow communities after the dropping of the 3rd runway. Residents and activists have worked together to turn the derelict piece of land back into a thriving market garden. 30 tonnes of rubbish have been removed and two of the greenhouses have been completely re glazed. There have also been many workshops and events such as permaculture courses, growing workshops and a well attended banquet.
Grow Heathrow is at the heart of the Transition Heathrow project, and the looming threat of eviction leaves it with an uncertain future. The land has become a community hub and a model of sustainable living and self-sufficiency. Please ensure the future of this exciting space by signing the petition to save Grow Heathrow!

- I am a local resident and I fully support Heathrow Grow. I would like to add my name those who are against their eviction. They are bringing a welcome, low-impact diversity to the community. This is the kind of thing I want to see encouraged in Hillingdon.

- The land is now serving the community -eviction will mean it will return to anti-social use. The Council, in pursuing this action, is working against it's own community.

- This project has really shown what is possible with a group of amazing dedicated people who have clearly connected with what is needed and wanted in the community of Sipson. The judge in this court case has the choice to do something different that will actually benefit people . Save Grow Heathrow!

- Airport expansion should be halted until we commit to get our scientists and engineers create, design and discover new ways to produce green(er) travel.

- If we know one thing, it is that our futures look pretty uncertain. No one can say for sure where we are headed. Overheated planet? economic contraction? end of cheap energy? more fragmented communities? One thing though that we can say for SURE is that we need spaces to learn how we can become more resilient, sustainable and creative and those need to be communal spaces so that learning can be enjoyed, disseminated as fast as possible to as many people as possible for everyone's long term benefit. Grow Heathrow is EXACTLY such a space and their social and creative experiment MUST continue. I live in Tooting and have followed what they do, my daughter has done courses there and I have met organisers at other events. We are learning from them about possibilities, and practical solutions.

- Grow Heathrow is an amazing space where you get the oppourtunity to be involved in productive, inspiring activity. From simple skills such as gardening, to the more complex building of a bike, to making a compost loo, Grow Heathrow facilitates the development of your knowledge and skill base in a way that the media-obsessed, ready-meal reliant, totally urbanised society of today could only dream of. Grow Heathrow has put so much back into the community in which it exists, becoming not only a centre of learning but the social hub of Sipson. To evict Grow Heathrow would be like pulling out by the roots the artichoke heart of the community and throwing it away, such a precious organism should be nurtured not demolished.

- Grow Heathrow is an inspiration: what a positive transformation they have brought to Sipson! Evicting them would be such a negative, destructive thing.

- Squatting sets immediate human needs, like affordable good food, before arbitrary law - it should be a crime to evict a community garden.

- Transition Heathrow has been an idea that we, here in the United States, have been watching with much anticipation and interest. Though the government has tried to remove the community space and the founders, they have been unsuccessful. It should prove that the project is not harmful to the community, and indeed, has been very fruitful for the surrounding areas. How much I hope to begin projects like this in my area.

- It's foolish to contemplate shutting down something as beautiful as this project. In recent times the emphasis from everyone has been on the building of 'community' in order to better 'the big society' and this project encapsulates everything I could think of involved in that. I support this one hundred percent.
