Transition Heathrow faces eviction from Grow Heathrow, its squatted garden in the heart of Sipson.

After occupying the site on 1st March 2010, the plot has provided local residents with a space to start building more sustainable and more resilient Heathrow communities after the dropping of the 3rd runway. Residents and activists have worked together to turn the derelict piece of land back into a thriving market garden. 30 tonnes of rubbish have been removed and two of the greenhouses have been completely re glazed. There have also been many workshops and events such as permaculture courses, growing workshops and a well attended banquet.

Grow Heathrow is at the heart of the Transition Heathrow project, and the looming threat of eviction leaves it with an uncertain future. The land has become a community hub and a model of sustainable living and self-sufficiency. Please ensure the future of this exciting space by signing the petition to save Grow Heathrow!

    • Grow Heathrow are showing what could be made of the land the third runway would have totally destroyed. To throw them out would be complete lunacy!

    • I really support your project for proving that goodwill and community spirit can overshadow the greed and selfishness of our increasingly fractured society. You have proved that there is still humanity and community alive in this country. Well done you are all doing great things!

    • I'm glad to sign this as I think they are doing a really important job in fighting for the environment by not allowing the 3rd runway to go ahead. They've also worked on making the place beautiful and its a lovely community welcome to all.

    • I believe this to be a sincerely inspiring project and positive community in all respects. I can only hope that there is a way around the recent modifications to such legislations regarding 'squats' for the people and spirit of the community involved.

    • I have stayed at Grow Heathrow and seen the beauty that has been created there. It's amazing to see how much it's become a part of the local community;not only as a space for people to connect and discuss, but also practically teaching people vital skills like gardening and growing food. The space was derelict when it was first squatted and lots of effort has obviously been put in by everyone involved. Many different people have called it home since the beginning, when it was squatted not only to turn it into a communal space and garden but in resistance to a corporate/government plan to expand an already massive airport-something they said they would never do. Grow Heathrow has helped save a community. So many people have been a part of it. We need more places like this today-not less. To evict it would make no sense and would outrage a much wider audience than just the local community.

    • The buyer of this prime agricultural land turned it into a contaminated scrap yard. Grow Heathrow have created a flourishing community space that gives residents hope in an area under perpetual threat from airport development. We will oppose EVERY future development of this site that does not involve using the land for agricultural purposes.
