Transition Heathrow faces eviction from Grow Heathrow, its squatted garden in the heart of Sipson.

After occupying the site on 1st March 2010, the plot has provided local residents with a space to start building more sustainable and more resilient Heathrow communities after the dropping of the 3rd runway. Residents and activists have worked together to turn the derelict piece of land back into a thriving market garden. 30 tonnes of rubbish have been removed and two of the greenhouses have been completely re glazed. There have also been many workshops and events such as permaculture courses, growing workshops and a well attended banquet.

Grow Heathrow is at the heart of the Transition Heathrow project, and the looming threat of eviction leaves it with an uncertain future. The land has become a community hub and a model of sustainable living and self-sufficiency. Please ensure the future of this exciting space by signing the petition to save Grow Heathrow!

    • we the people want the freedom to help ourselves and do such simple things as grow out own food etc. i have reached the age of 60 and am disgusted with our so call democracy. human rights was invented because of the abuse mostly by people in power. we will not give up anx we are teaching out children and grandchildren to stand up for out basic rights. to choose a way of life that suits. anx not he suits who only desire money and power regardless of what is obviously right

    • i think this is a good thing for the community and is a shame that people trying to make a difference for the planet are stopped. if the lands unused and been neglected then at least they're using it for something usefull and good.

    • They can't build their runway so they're obviously being spiteful and not wanting anyone else to build anything that is doing great things at a local community level. There's no money in that!

    • Another petitioner wrote the following and I couldn't have put it better, hence the quote: "Grow Heathrow is distinct in this era of social alienation as a project that builds community, rather than stripping it down. Supermarket culture and tv dinners in front of x-factor has sidelined vital human interactions, without which a shared moral of respect cannot be established, giving rise to the majority of social ailments witnessed today. If we are to remedy this then it is of the utmost importance that projects like Grow Heathrow, which counter this with action, must be encouraged and supported."

    • Despite the stunning victory in the campaign against a third Heathrow runway Sipson, the community on the front line of this struggle has suffered consderably from the pressure it has been under. Grow Heathrow addresses this other issue of the sustainability of a thriving community in the shadow of Heathrow airport.
