We, the followers of Eastenders, are disgusted at the heinous murder of Herby the catapilliar in the episode dated Friday the 10th of April, 2009, and we will not rest until the character is reinstated within the programme.

Promoting animal abuse in a television program is a heinous detriment to the animals across this green and beautiful land, and it shall not be tolerated.

    • I think it's disgusting that EastEnders killed off Herbert. EastEnders is lacking pets at the moment. Genghis and Wellard were written out of the soap last year and the only pet we have now is Gumbo. Herbert had the potential to be a brilliant pet, but EastEnders had to go and kill him off for the sake of it. It is a travesty. I have a good mind to complain and this heart-wrenching decision.

    • Hello. It is me, Diederick Santer - the current Executive producer of the popular British soap opera EastEnders. I am quite surprised by the negative feedback we have received from our decision to have Herbert the caterpillar accidentally squashed by one of our newest characters, Todd Taylor. It was purely meant to provide a bit of comedy to the programme to help the show recover from the high drama of last week. The decision to kill off Herbert was not one of my own, it was infact Simon Ashdowns (One of our writers). I shall appologise on behalf of him to those who were "deeply upset" by this decision. To cheer you all up, I am delighted to inform you Tiffany Dean (played by the wonderful Maisie Smith) shall be getting a brand new pet in the next coming weeks. I'm not going to tell you what pet this will be, you will find out soon. I decided to sign this petition to show there is no hard feelings. All the best, Diederick Santer.

    • I have been so traumatised by this cruel storyline that I have not been able to eat any salad today, if this continues & I eat only junk food & get fat then Santa will have that on his head & I shall sue the BBC & get them to pay for liposuction & a personal trainer!!

    • Herbert is not really dead in the episode to be aired on Monday he'll reappear walking out of the phonebox near to the alleyway. He'll then get the chance to say a real goodbye to Tiffany before walking out of Fat Pat's house and into a black cab and maybe he'll return when storylines permit! xx
