Whereas hospice palliative care is a highly specialized service providing complete and exceptional care to both the patient and the family
Whereas it is more costly to utilize an acute hospital bed than a hospice palliative care bed
Whereas excellent hospice palliative care supports a healthy grieving process after the death and therefore can reduce the incidence of secondary issues of unresolved grief such as absenteeism from work, physical and mental health complaints which lead to visits to health care providers, family discord, and displaced anger, all of which have added monetary costs to our society
And Whereas every British Columbian deserves the best and most complete care available in this great province
We, the undersigned, call upon our elected officials to remove the burden of this specialized service from the overburdened health care system and place the responsibility in the hands of those who are best equipped. We call upon you to FULLY FUND hospice palliative care homes.

- stand alone hospice homes provide the absolute best and most complete care to the dying and their families. This is a vital service and should not be done as half measures.

- It only makes sense to fund Hospice Palliative Care when you know how much less it costs at at Hospice end-of-life care as opposed to hospital care.

- this should be 100\% funded by our health care system. Death is a part of life. It is an embarassment that our government does not fund this. Our Hospice Societies in BC save our government thousands of dollars and gives people the care and the dignity they all deserve at the end of their lives.

- Our government has their priorities all screwed up. Perhaps they should take tours of the Hospice Houses and see the good they do. They should talk to the families and the guests to get a good understanding of just how valuable Hospice Palliative Care is.

- The services that our community Hospice provide for Palliative care is in my view essential. It is scary to think what would our community members do without this service.

- We all deserve to pass with dignity. This is not only affordable through Hospice, it is cheaper than Palliative. Please give it serious consideration.

- I've seen hospice services support the process of dying for a friend (too young at 57) and her daughter. Dignity in dying is not something to be struck away lightly.

- This is a crucial matter. Treating our dying with the dignity, care and comfort hospices provide is a foundational tenet of our Canadian identity. I urge your support for this and hope that you will understand how fundamental this is to ongoing efforts to protect and foster the rights of the dying .

- Not funding Palliative Care costs, in the long run, more than funding it.

- We live in a province with an underfunded healthcare system with acute bed shortages. Palliative care., like any other service, is best delivered by the specialists. Not only is funded Palliative care cost-effective, it is also a common sense solution and it provides the dignity and care we all deserve. The dying deserve our best, not warehousing.
