We, the ordained Clergy persons (O.C.P) and members of non-deity worshipping churches, hereby request that Revenue Canada and any other Federal or Provincial government body involved, begin the process of allowing churches that don't worship a deity to receive religious non-profit status in Canada. Without this status, these churches can not legally start chapters in Canada and O.C.P's with these churches are forbidden from performing legally recognized marriages in Canada.
The practice of not issuing religious non-profit status to churches that do not worship a deity is discriminatory. Canada is not as liberal as the US in recognizing alternative religions and requires a deity, except in cases of ancient religions, like Buddhism, which are grandfathered in for no apparent reason.
Spiritual Humanism is a religion based on the ability of human beings to solve the problems of society using logic and science.
Most people need a religion to help guide them through life's challenges and difficult moral decisions. Recognizing how the power of religious rituals, methods, and communication can impact human behavior, Spiritual Humanism fuses traditional religious behaviors onto the foundation of scientific humanist inquiry.
While it is impossible to remove age old traditions from human culture, we can redirect them by redefining their underlying significance and meanings. Spiritual Humanism is natural, not supernatural. By using a method of scientific inquiry we can define the inspirational, singular spark inherent in all living creatures.
Again, we urge Revenue Canada to begin the process of allowing churches who do not worship a deity, such as the Church of Spiritual Humanism, religious non-profit status.
