We, as fans of the anime and manga series Initial D, feel that Tokyopop didn't show the proper consideration when deciding to change the original japanese names of the characters.

We understand the need of something more "mainstream" to be aired on tv, but we feel changing it also in the manga version was unnecessary and disrespectful not only to the fans that already know the characters by their japanese names, but also for the ones that bought the fist volume of the manga, where everything was in the original japanese format.

We hope Tokyopop will not only release a DVD where the fans of the japanese names have this option, but also that a REAL 100\% Authentic version of the Initial D manga will be released right along with the new "american" version, so everyone will have the option of buying which version they please.

We want to be a part of the Initial D experience, but in its original format, and whitout having to wait for a late "Collector's Edition".

The original Initial D fans don't want to be left behind on this race!

    • Honestly this is outrageous. I loved the first volume of Initial D(it was a great product and well worth it). However, it is just plain not nice to do this to those of us who already know the characters by their original names. Also, it is COMPLETELY unnecessary. So much for 100% authentic manga.

    • I sincerely hope that you will keep the original names. It just doesn't feel right. You have been doing such a good job with other titles. I would be extremely disappointed if you were to start "americanizing" the character's names.

    • Although, myself, I have never seen or read Initial-D, I stand by the fact that we should NOT Americanize everything just for the sake of it being easier to say. The character's from Initial-D should keep their original names. Haven't we butchered enough already?

    • I am also a dedicated Initial D fan. I don't actually live in the US, so will not be there to watch it on tele. But I must voice for the sake of it! Basically, I think Tokyopop should start off by thinking what it would be like if everyone started calling them by a completely different name - not so nice, is it? Changing names take away the original identity of the person. I have seen the american companies done this before on varies Japanese animation. I just can't imagine looking at Ryosuke being called by another name, whatever it'll be. Same goes to the other characters - even to Seiji who's not one of my favourite characters in the manga! Well, however minute this message is gonna be for Tokyopop, I still hope it'll make a difference. For you guys who'll be watching it in the US, I sincerely hope it'll be the 'original' version. Best.

    • I love Initial D and would be willing to support it in the USA if it was done well. I think by taking out the technical information, the original storyline, and the original names, TP is ruining its own chances of a sucessful project.

    • I've never been into cars and their mechanics, but Initial D drew me in because it's a interesting and well-coordinated anime. I love it a lot; the name changes you're proposing is shocking because it's so radically, and illogically, different. Well, I wouldn't mind if you also had a parallel release with the original names and intent. I hope Tokyopop will release something like that, because (unless I'm mistaken) Tokyopop has been arranging anime for anime's followers and not solely to appeal to the "prep" trend.

    • Do not change the names of the Initial D characters!! I am both a member of tokyopop.com & a fan of Initial D. I live in America & am not Japanese, but I have already bought the #1 English version manga & have all 10 DVDs of Initial D from Japan. Do not ruin this series by changing their names. We Americans are not so stupid that we can't understand who is who even if they have Japanese names. Please keep the names we already love the same!!! Thanks

    • NO WAY that you can do this..... are you afraid of exposing people to Japanese names??? If you do this, I will lose ALL respect for you and NEVER buy from you again. NEVER. Many of my friends are Initial D fans, and they would follow my actions. So, we order you to NOT change the names.
