Countless iPod users have been happily downloading Movies to their video-capable iPods, resulting in more than 7 million movie downloads from the iTunes Store. Apple's recent announcement that movies can now be rented from iTunes meant that you could download a favorite film for rent, transfer it to your iPod, and view it on your TV with a cheap cable.
But the fact is that anyone who purchased an iPod before September 2007 -- millions and millions of us -- can't transfer movie rentals to your iPod Classic 5 or 5.5G!
* Have you wasted money at the iTunes store on a rental only to discover it doesn't work on your iPod?
* Do you think it makes sense that your iPod can play purchased movies just fine but not the same movies when they are rented?
* Are you willing to let Apple force you into upgrading your perfectly good video-capable iPod just so you can use the new rental service?
If YOU SPEAK UP, Apple can fix this with just one easy firmware update!Don't let them lock you out of a great new product just because they want you to upgrade their hardware! Let them know that you are angry!
Sign our petition! Express your displeasure with an email to Apple's iTunes PR chief Tom Neumayr at tneumayr@apple.com! Learn more about this screwjob at http://www.tuaw.com/2008/01/17/itunes-rentals-on-5g-ipod-nope
Don't forget, Apple may have lined up Hollywood's finest content providers to support iTunes Movie Rentals, but it can't expect success if millions of its own loyal customers are unable to view the films on their own iPods.

- I am really disapointed in Apple. Backwards capability is important. Even more so when the product you bought is outdated in less than a year. Apple has a good thing going.. One would hope they don't throw it away by alienating thier customer base.

- I have downloaded a movie rental falsely believing I was going to be able to watch it on my ipod classic, just to find out that wasn't possible. It is unfathomable how you can expect people to pay for something they can't even view on the described devices.

- I am not angry, but dissapointed. In the future, I will carefully consider NOT spending money with Apple. I have an iMac, MacBook Pro, and a 5G ipod. There is no reason why I should have to buy a new ipod to us the itunes rental. Please rectify this ASAP. Thanks

- I have many apple products. I'm not sure if the trend towards screwing the customer is deliberate or just a result of sloppy planning. Either way I am starting to lose respect for Apple.
