We the undersigned call on you to reverse the recent decision to deny services to vulnerable British Columbians based on an arbitrary IQ cut-off of 70. We urge your government to act immediately to provide the necessary resources and direction to ensure:

- All adults with developmental challenges who cannot live safely without support have timely access to appropriate services and supports;

- All children and youth with special needs have timely access to appropriate services -- delivered in their communities and based on individual need, not diagnostic labels! -- to allow them to maximise their potential;

- Families, agencies and caregivers who care for challenging adults and children are appropriately supported

- Appropriate transition planning and integration of service delivery to address major and worsening gaps in the current system.

    • If the ministry claims that IQ is and has always been one of many factors in deciding who gets services, could someone please show me how this buffet of care actually works?

    • A cruel and surprising way to try to save some dollars. Without a safety net, you will be condemning people to incredible hardship, if not the street.

    • The decision about an IQ of 70 must have been made by an accountant, because it makes no sense to a clinician.
