Call on the UN, US, EU and Arab League
To protect Camp Ashraf with an international force

9 people are reported to have been killed and up to 500 injured after Iraqi forces attacked unarmed Iranian residents of Camp Ashraf, north of Baghdad, on Tuesday 28-JULY-2009.

Hundreds of armed security forces used bulldozers to force their way into the camp at around 3pm local time on 28-JULY-2009. They used tear gas, water cannons and batons and even axe, barbed stave, metal rods and stickles against unarmed residents who tried to stop them from entering the camp.

Video footage clearly shows Iraqi forces beating people brutally and repeatedly on different parts of the body, in particular the head. In this heinous attack against unarmed peace loving people of ashraf city 500 people injured and 13 are in a critical condition.

In addition to the numerous casualties, camp residents say that 36 people were arrested. Their current whereabouts are unknown.

The US forces provided protection for the camp and its residents, who were designated as "protected persons" following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, but this situation was discontinued following the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) between the US and Iraqi governments, although the SOFA makes no reference to Camp Ashraf or its residents.
We, the undersigned, strongly urge all Iranians across the world and freedom loving people of the world to rush to support the people in ashraf in hunger strike and support the demands of Ashraf residents and call up the UN, US, EU and Arab League respond to Ashraf resident's demands.

Demands of Ashraf residents:
1. Iraqi forces should immediately leave Ashraf.

2. Compliance of the Iraqi government with the April 24, 2009 resolution of the European Parliament on the humanitarian situation of Ashraf residents.

3. Presence of a representative of the UN Security Council or UN Secretary General in Ashraf for talks about the determination of the final status of Ashraf residents.

4. Lawyers of Ashraf residents and international human rights organizations, which has been banned for the past 7 months;must be allowed to enter Ashraf and visit the residents.

5. Prosecution and punishment of parties who ordered or perpetrated the brutal attacks and massacre in Camp Ashraf by an international tribunal for crimes against humanity.

6- The experience of the past year has proven that the current Iraqi government does not have the capacity and qualification to be responsible for the protection of Ashraf residents. In reality, unfortunately, the Iraqi government implements the wishes of the dictatorship ruling Iran to suppress the Iranian opposition in Iraq according to the "mutual agreement."The solution is the following: The US forces are in charge of protecting Ashraf temporarily until an international force under the supervision of the UN replaces them. We call the UN, the US Government, the European Union and the Arab League to this effect.


Thus, we strongly urge the UN, US, EU and Arab League to protect Camp Ashraf with an international force
