It's rumored that Joe was fired over the telephone right after he heard the news of his father's death. He was informed that the character of Stefano DiMera will never awaken from his Marlena-induced coma... as a matter of fact, it's being said that Joe will no longer be seen at all on Days of our Lives.... ever.
Being a long time Days fan & a HUGE Stefano DiMera fan, I find the thought of Salem without Stefano to be unbearable. I waited 5 long years to get him back in Salem. Next month will mark his 1st anniversary in his latest incarnation. The Phoenix arose & the ratings rose with him.
If this rumor turns out to be true, I'm through with not only Days of our Lives but also with NBC. I will block that channel from every TV in my home. I will no longer endorse any program that airs on that network. This is not a threat...OK, so it is... but it's also a promise. If Days/NBC ditches Joe, they can kiss my *** goodbye. >:(
This issue not only affects Joe (& us) but also the future of Days.
How will John regain his memory?
How will the DiMera empire survive without it's patriarch?
Who will be to blame for every evil act perpetrated in the fictional midwestern town of Salem, USA?
Who else will be powerful enough & rich enough to stand again Victor Kiriakis?
Tony? He's too immature to control anything larger than Anna's dress buttons.
EJ? He's stuck so far up Sami's rear end that all we'll see of him is his Gucci loafers.
John? Not only would Marlena not want to be married to the "new" Phoenix but John wouldn't want to [i]be[/i] him once he regained his memory.
If Joe Mascolo is indeed fired as it's being rumored then I have only this to say about that:
Days of our Lives has just died in the most painful & horrible way imaginable.
Let's keep Joe Mascolo as Stefano DiMera. Days needs him now more than ever.

- Agreed! This show is so lame now that Joe is gone, again! If they think they can invent a new equally quality villain in this new Italian family (i.e. Eva and her father), it is NOT working and never will. I don't even regularly watch this show any longer for this very reason.

- I think this is horrible. I have watched Days of Our Lives since I was 5 years old and even through the bad times there was always hope that Stefano would return. Without Joe or without hope of Joe returning I don't think I'll be able to watch.
