We regard the proposal to reduce the number of posts in Classical Archaeology and Art at King's College London from four to three as an arbitrary and short-sighted measure that disregards the integral nature of the subject to the discipline of Classics as a whole. We do not accept the rationale of the restructuring, nor the manner in which decisions have thus far been made, including the ambiguity of the consultation process and the lack of proposed alternatives to redundancy. The dismissal of one member of staff and their subject specialism will cause irreparable damage to the intellectual wellbeing and reputation of the Classics Department and will have grave implications far beyond the University. We urge the Executive of Kings College London to reconsider this proposal and retain all four posts in Classical Archaeology and Art.

- 3 weeks into my course and my chosen tutor is threatened with redundancy ! I chose King's specifically because of the quality of the teaching staff and I do not wish to be forced to go elsewhere.

- The class I took with Professor Arafat at King's College has been one of the best courses I have ever taken in Classical Art History.
