We regard the proposal to reduce the number of posts in Classical Archaeology and Art at King's College London from four to three as an arbitrary and short-sighted measure that disregards the integral nature of the subject to the discipline of Classics as a whole. We do not accept the rationale of the restructuring, nor the manner in which decisions have thus far been made, including the ambiguity of the consultation process and the lack of proposed alternatives to redundancy. The dismissal of one member of staff and their subject specialism will cause irreparable damage to the intellectual wellbeing and reputation of the Classics Department and will have grave implications far beyond the University. We urge the Executive of Kings College London to reconsider this proposal and retain all four posts in Classical Archaeology and Art.

- in the 1970s I took a Roman Religion module at King's with Mary Beard. It's informed my whole life. Please don't take such opportunities away from future students.

- It is of paramount importance for the survival of the humankind to know its history and be able to access it. The Classic scholarship and tradition is humanity's only venue of doing it. It is unthinkable that we shall lose that venue. Stop those abominable cuts!

- This is a great shame and will most certainly affect many departments and universities if such cuts are approved without consideration for the quality of education and the value of Classics, Art History, and Archaeology within the larger collegiate system.
