WHEREAS Wajid Khan, a Toronto area business person, who twice ran as a candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in the federal riding of Mississauga--Streetsville, and,

WHEREAS Wajid Khan identified his politics to potential electors by fully and publicly supporting and endorsing the policies of the Liberal Party of Canada, and,

WHEREAS Wajid Khan promoted his candidacy by relying not only on his own attributes but also the unqualified support of the Liberal Party of Canada for his candidacy including endorsements from senior Liberal politicians including then Prime Minister Paul Martin and then Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan, and used his association with the Liberal Party of Canada to promote the worthiness of his candidacy, and,

WHEREAS the riding of Mississauga--Streetsville and the ridings from which it was made up prior to its constitution in 2003 has not sent a Conservative politician to Ottawa to represent the region in the House of Commons since 1988, and,

WHEREAS Wajid Khan, having twice run as the Liberal candidate for Mississauga--Streetsville and twice been elected to the House of Commons as a Liberal member of the House, and having announced on January 5 2007 his resignation from the Liberal Party of Canada to join the Conservative Party of Canada, without the foreknowledge or approval of his electors, has effectively disenfranchised his electors as a result of his undemocratic decision and thus he has no moral mandate to represent his constituents in the House, therefore,

WE THE UNDERSIGNED Canadian citizens from across the country, regardless of which or any political party we may support, demand that Wajid Khan immediately resign his seat in the House of Commons and demand that the Prime Minister call a by-election for the riding of Mississauga--Streetsville, to be held at the earliest possible opportunity, in order that the people of the riding be provided with the opportunity to decide in a democratic manner which candidate of which party has the legitimate mandate to represent them in the House of Commons.

    • I am a Conservative Party member and deplore what Stephen Harper has done - the second time in his term as Prime Minister. Wajid Khan has done the same disservice to his constituents as David Emerson has done to the residents of Vancouver--Kingsway. The electorate, not an MP and the Prime Minister, ought to decide the electoral future of a member of parliament. Khan ran a partisan campaign and fully endorsed the policies of his former party, the Liberal Party, and his constituents sent him to Ottawa with that in mind. By switching parties he's effectively said "forget what I said and promised before, I have a new master". Voters didn't vote for that. Wajid Khan should resign and go back to the electorate in a by-election for a legitimate mandate from the people. Khan, and Emerson before him, and other M.P.s before them, put a stain on our democracy by acting as if their voice is more valuable than the voice of the people they represent.

    • Mr. Khan should sit as an independent. Mr. Harper should not allow him into his caucus. This is a violation of Canadians' democratic rights. Khan has done an Emerson!!!

    • Mr. Kahn should step down and a by-election should be held. He could then seek the Conservative nomination and the support of the electorate.

    • He was elected as a Liberal therefore should hold a by-election and see if the consituents of the riding are willing to support him as a Conservative or dump him

    • I am an elector in Mississauga-Streetsville and want Wajid Khan out of the House and out of the riding. Jim Caron of the NDP would be an infinitely better representative, more reliable in every way. He lives in Mississauga-Streetsville, has experience with trade unions and negotiations, and has qualities of imagination and sympathy that qualify him to represent working people of all classes, ethnicities and faiths.

    • Crossing the floor is a disgusting betrayal and a display of pure contempt for the will of his constituents. This excuse for an MP must be brought down.

    • Wajid Khan disenfranchised the voters of Mississauga-Streetsville, just as David Emerson did to us in Vancouver-Kingsway almost a year ago. We in Vancover Kingsway took to the streets in massive demonstrations to show our discust and displeasure. The pressure has never been let up on Emerson and indications are that he will not be running in the coming election. He won't becuase he's tested the waters in BC and Conservative voters won't vote for him either. So I support the disenfranchised voters of Mississuaga-Sreetsville and urge you all to stand up to Mr. Khan and force him to resign.

    • I am a citizen and resident of the Mississauga-Streetville riding and am appalled by the action of Wajid Khan. He ran and won as a Liberal and now he has to have the guts to resign and try his luck in running as a Conservative. He must resign so that his 'mentor- Steve' can and must call a by-election to allow the citizens of the riding to have their democratic say in electing a true representative of the riding irrespective of which party is the victor. He deceived the people who had elected him and now has to come clean if he wants to be recognized as a 'good' politician.

    • We have an able candidate from the NDP in the riding. Jim Caron, a trade union leader who is qualified to represent us. Since Wajid has demonstrated that the Liberals and Conservatives share the same political philosophy, it's time to send Jim to Ottawa to represent working-class families with a social justice and environmentally focussed platform.

    • Obviously the Accountability Act is a sham. Gomery himself has said that Harper ignored his report. Harper demonstrates once again that he does not stand up for Canada.
