As many students avoid eating animal products for ethical, environmental, and dietary reasons.
As many more students are choosing to skip meat-based meals altogether for health concerns, such as the mad cow scare, avian flu or salmonella poisoning.
As the vegetarian population is rapidly growing throughout our society, with more than 25 percent of the population opting out of meat-based meals, as meat-avoiders, choisetarians, vegetarians, fruitarians, vegans or Janists.
As young womyn, ages 15-25, are the group who most often to eliminate meat from their diet these being a large segment of our university population.
As in Canada, more than 6 million people between 20 to 64 years old are overweight and another 2.8 million are obese.
As the resposiblity and opportunity to combat this epidemic lies on Ryerson University as a leading Canadian university, by providing healthy, nutritious and accessible food.
As the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (in the U.S.) has provided scientific evidence showing that vegetarian and vegan foods promote good health as well as help promote a healthy weight and lifestyles
As Ryerson University as an institution would no doubt support holistic and inclusive dietary practices for its students and not deny them the right to access nutritional food options
As many racialized global majority peoples suffer from lactose-intolerance, and as this demographic constitutes a large part of the Ryerson Universtiy population.
As providing vegan options meets the needs of lactose-intolerant or allergic students, as well as those others that opt not to consume animal products or participate in animal cruelty.
As Aramark (our prison-food provider) has provided soy or other vegan based meat or cheese alternatives at other higher learning intstitutions in response to the rise in dietary concerns.
As Aramark, in a recently published (U.S) nationwide survey of over 100,000 college students, stated that nearly a quarter of the students asked said finding vegan meals on campus was important to them.
Be it resolved, that we the undersigned, ask and demand of you, Ryerson University to move forward on the introduction and mainstreaming of more, affordable, nutritious, non-meat based healthy food options,
because 'fries are not a vegetable'
and the only salads with dark greens have some dead animal in them.
Be it further resolved, that we the undersigned, ask and demand of you, Ryerson University, that you do so in a timely, expedient and cncerted way, for the health and future of the ALL of the students (and community members) at Ryerson University, including staff, faculty, admin, and community members at large.

- Please add Cocacola carbonated drinks to the list of items to remove from the healthy menu list

- In addition, please remove all Coca Cola products, and all slave produced coffee products. Ryerson University needs to uphold human rights, and must offer alternatives - more food options, and more ethical choices.

- Without vegan options at Ryerson, I will have to spend my money elsewhere, as many students already do.

- Although I myself am not a vegan or vegetarian, I do believe it makes sense that a school as large and diverse as ours should cater to something so simple and basic.

- I feel that there are little if any healthy options on campus. This is upsetting as I have a sensitive stomach, and most of the greasy food makes me sick. It is my hope that by potentially bringing vegan/vegetarian options onto campus, healthy lifestyles will be kept in mind. Please note that I am neither a vegan nor a vegetarian, but I believe that people's lifestyle choices should be accepted to the point where they are properly accommodated with food that is fulfilling. Thank you for your time, I hope we can work something out.

- For inclusive practices for all students at Ryerson, meeting the needs of all groups should be upheld; whether they are faith based and students with disability, as I am a muslim woman with disability studying at Ryerson, as well as for what is also a basic right for access to nutrition and diet.

- Veg diet should be introduced. It also is a big help for international students coming to Ryerson who might not eat meat always.

- Its a great idea to have this type of food because students who cannot eat meat will have a healthy alternative.

- As a Vegetarian it would be greatly appreciated if there where more options for me to eat in the Cafe. Please take into consideration that there are many students that are vegetarians, who's needs are not being met with the limited food choices currently being offered by the university. E.D.E

- I am a Hindu Student from India, and for me vegetarian food is very important. I was usually stuck with just fries or veggie pizza. I really appreciate this move. Thanks.

- This vegetarian member of Ryerson's alumni whole-heartedly supports adding more vegetarian and vegan options to Ryerson campus cafeterias. In particular, I'd ask that vegetarians meals containing tofu and/or other soy products be introduced, in order to help provide a healthy balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Unfortunately, too often the vegetarian version of a meal simply has the meat (i.e., sole protein source) removed and that's inadequate for a healthy diet.

- Vegetarian diets have been shown to be good for human health as well as the overall environment that we live in. Current research as shown meat to be both bad for human health and the world environment as well.
