Kodachrome still and cine photographic film has been around for the past 74 years and it has had a rich and vibrant history in that many things from world changing events to family moments have been captured on it.
Although it is now only processed at one lab in the World and its sales have been declining due to digital photography, it still has a hugh range of applications for both the consumer and the professional. Just look at the sales figures for one week since Kodak announced it was going to discontinue the last remaining film, Kodachrome 64. Mailshots UK report that over 5000 rolls of it have sold between the 22nd and 29th of June 2009. Photographers are actually stockpiling it now! This surely shows that there is a massive demand from consumers, yet Kodak claims that it only represents 1\% of its total sales. If you think about it, there is only actually one Kodachrome film sort availiable, so sales will be lower than in the past.
The detail that Kodachrome gives is also unmatched by any other digital or film picture, and it is very long lasting before it starts to lose its quality. It has been calculated that it will take approximately 180 years before the most unstable colour, yellow, loses 20\% of it colour, no other film can match this!
Kodachrome is also much better value for money. Except in the USA, you get a prepaid mailer with every film, so that you only have to pay for the postage. It can cost much more for other non process paid slide films to be developed and this will deter yet more photographers from using slide film.

So Kodak, I think that you should continue to manufacture and sell Kodachrome 64 slide film as it is an iconic film that still has a big demand as people would not be stockpiling it otherwise and your estimate of stocks lasting until the around October are obviously way off as sales are up by 5x so this must satisfy you that there is a demand for this film. It also have unmatchable quality and is better value for money, so more people will continue to use traditional slide film.

    • Amazing. We have E6 stored alongside K14 slides. No comparison--K14 looks perfect 50 years later and E6 is essentially "ruined" in 20.
