This is an appeal targetting global civil society to lobby the Indian and Pakistani governments to ease their military presence in Kashmir. Further, to give an unconditional right to the people of Kashmir to travel and trade on either side of the divide (LOC - Line of Control that divides the Indian and Pakistani administered parts. This divide has outlasted the Berlin Wall by two decades now. Finally, to request both countries to refrain from perpetuating the myth that Hindus and Muslims cannot co-exist harmoniously.

    • Live and let live.Whats d point of governing a piece of land when that governing has come at d expense of lives and peoples suffering. We should live our lives not by what we own but by how we touch peoples lives.Do on to others as you would want to be done unto you.For you will surely be answerable when you meet your maker.

    • This could be the starting point acceptable to everybody, from which to work towards a lasting solution. There is absolutely no justification to keep Kashmiris divided and disenfranchised like this. What is more, neither India nor Pakistan can win a place of honour in the comity of nations without allowing Kashmiris their just and universally recognised right to self determination.

    • The UN resolution required a plebescite to be held in Kashmir so that the Kashmiris could decide whether they wanetd Kashmir to be a part of India or Pakistan. Pandit Nehru had agreed to this. However this has not been done yet. The mater has lingered long enough with great suffering on the part of Kashmiris. India and Pakistan need to get together and work this out once and for all. Already wars have been fought by the two on this question. If they cannot or do not want to work out a solution, the UN needs to get involved again and enforce a just and peaceful solution. We live in a constantly shrinking world. Conflict in any one region affest the world at large. No longer is any nation an island unto itself.

    • I believe many misgivings and mistrust between Muslims and non-Muslims, between Kashmiris and non-Kashmiris, between India and Pakistan have been sustaining more on these border barriers than reality and facts. I am strong votary of free travel and trade and suggest that governments of India and Pakistan should subsidize cross-LOC travel (upto one month stay) at least 80\% jointly and also declare the cross-LOC trade tax-free for at least 20 years.

    • T 3 is no objection to any party but at the cost of national security no way! Living outside Kashmir have kept you always misinformed and that has created more confusion over Kashmir. Kashmiris cheat each other frequently for reasons best known to them. How can people think of favours when they have deprived someone from their homeland Kashmir. Now the pre planned blame game is on to prove Kashmiri Pandits claim to be false. Try hard write pettitions only things addressed with honesty will be reciprocated by the divine on time to innocent people whether they be KP's or KM's. Tathaastu,,, Aameen!!!

    • It is very unfortunate and cruel not to allow blood relatives to visit each others home. Yes, security is a concern, but it seems politics of division and bread and butter for military keep these families apart.
