Whereas Willisville Mountain is a historically significant and beautiful area in the La Cloche Mountains of Northern Ontario;
Whereas Vale is currently mining Lawson Quarry and Vale has stated there is 80 years of silica reserves there;
Whereas Vale has stated Lawson Quarrys reserves will last longer than the estimated ore reserves in the Sudbury basin;
Whereas Willisville Mountain and the surrounding area is of great significance not only to Canadians but to naturalists, artists and tourists to Canada worldwide;
We therefore call upon Vale to accept the following motion presented on June 2, 2010 by the La Cloche Mountains Preservation Society and the Village of Willisville (Sudbury Condominium Association #5) to insure there will be no mining of Willisville Mountain and the area north surrounding Charlton Lake and Lang Lake:
As the current Lawson Quarry will meet VALE's needs in Sudbury for the next 80 years, a period of time longer than the life of the company's current estimated ore reserves in the Sudbury Basin, we request areas B, C and D from the aggregate license #20568 be surrendered by VALE so there will be no future mining or quarry operations.'
