To:Those responsible for stadium safety at Lancashire County Cricket Club
Over recent years, we, the supporters of Lancashire County Cricket Club, have become increasingly unhappy with the security measures put in place by the club which we feel have a negative effect on our enjoyment of the cricket.
This has occurred in a number of different ways, which started with the introduction of outside stewarding.
1) Banning alcohol/canned drinks being brought into the stadium. It was claimed that this is now the case at all international sporting stadia, however this is not the case at Headingley. I (the author) do not believe that this action helps to stop unwanted behaviour caused by alcohol consumption from people within the stadium as the alcohol is on sale anyway and is still drunk in similar amounts.
2) Over zealous stewarding with particular regard to children. In the past, it was perfectly acceptable, between deliveries, for children to request an autograph from a player fielding close to the boundary and the players have always been happy to oblige, what harm does this do? Also it is unfair to stop children from playing cricket safely and considerately in the covered concourse area below stands A and B, particularly during inclement weather which makes it impractical for young children, or indeed anyone, to play in the open, uncovered area which stewards move these children along to. Again, what harm are they doing?
All we ask is that the rules are relaxed to what they were previously or at least that a compromise can be reached.
