STOP THE NJ TRANSIT LAND GRAB!
Senate Bill 2972 is a bill planned for the lame duck session that will remove all municipal land use authority and local control over property owned by New Jersey Transit. Under the proposed law, NJ Transit would be able to build massive development projects, free from local zoning laws. And thats not all the bill may also provide authority to condemn adjacent properties through eminent domain!
This bill is an early Christmas present for the biggest developers in New Jersey and their associates. There is a particular threat that is happening right now in Hoboken, where NJ Transit has a plan to build several 40-story buildings and a 70-story skyscraper, totally out of scale with the rest of the city. If this bill becomes state law, Hoboken will lose control over its own future NJ Transit will turn this thriving small city into a miniature Manhattan whether its citizens and taxpayers like it or not.
NJ Transit owns property all over New Jersey, and every such town is affected. It is time for the citizens of New Jersey to stand together and fight this assault on our states towns and cities!
Hoboken Councilwoman Beth Mason is leading a statewide effort to stop SB 2972. Shes organizing a public meeting where public officials and private citizens can join together, stand up and make our collective voices heard!
Will you join us and help stop this legislation from being enacted this year?

- This senate bill cannot pass. The city of Hoboken will be ruined with any additional skyscraper buildings and towers. The city's uniqueness comes from its ability to function as a city, yet maintain a community/neighborhood atmosphere. No institutions, including a government agency (aka NJ Transit) should be given the authority to build without zoning restrictions. It destroys the balance of power that exists in our society.

- Don't want skyscrapers on south end of Hoboken! Sell out the empty units in Jersey City's waterfront first, and leave our watwerfront open to view. Meanwhile, WTF is up with the A,Track ad on the preview signatures?? Kind of ironic!

- Bad Development Policy is sending this State further into finanial ruin. Giving any developer control over all its building decisions only benefits them and nobody else in the community. Time to stop this crap now!

- New Jersey Transit wants to build sky scrapers when they can't even offer a metro card like system to their riders? They are terrible at business now, why should they get any bigger. We do not want them in Hoboken, let Sarlo put them in his district, I am sure they "gave" enough money to his campaign.

- The ability to arrive at a sustainable revitalization of the site does not stem from dictatoresque gestures, but from consensus built from all affected parties.

- This would solidify the future of Hobken and would leave its citizens unable to conserve what is left of the city's unique character.

- Local Zoning Laws should be upheld. Let's not give more power to developers than they already have from their contributions to political campaigns.

- Overdevelopment is ruining Hoboken (and everywhere else). Let NJ transit have their way and life in Hoboken will be hell. I'll bet they'll even get tax abatements.
