Plans are underway to run a new rail service between Edinburgh and Glasgow from 2014. Clydesdale needs better links to the East to support employment and tourism opportunities but to date the Scottish Government will not commit to these services stopping at Carluke and Carstairs.
We call on the Scottish Government to ensure that the proposed 2014 Glasgow-Edinburgh rail service stops at Carluke and Carstairs stations to support economic development and tourism in the Clydesdale constituency.

- Clydesdal Rail Action Group has been drawing attention for years to the fact that clydesdale needs better public transport links to the east. This would transform the prospects for this area of Scotland too long neglected.

- I have travelled from Carstairs to Haymarket on Virgins Trains services in journey times of less than 25 minutes in the past. If we cannot have a direct rail service from Lanark to Edinburgh, like they did have up until 1966, then how difficult is it to initiate a shuttle bus service from Lanark to make the rail connection at Carstairs station ? Also, with so much unused/redundant ground space at Carstairs, surely a decent & secure car-park facility could easily be set up for this purpose too ?

- I live in Edinburgh and occasionally have to travel to Lanark for work. A direct train stopping at Carluke and Carstairs would make such a difference

- I work in Edinburgh, and the transport links to south Lanarkshire are shockingly bad. If I wanted to use public transport I would need to travel to cleland or Motherwell. It's heart breaking that the train from Edinburgh to Motherwell goes through Carluke, yet doesn't stop. This means I then need to wait for a train to take me back in the direction I have just came.

- A link up with edinburgh would certainly be handy. A lot of people in the Biggar area and the surrounding villages commute to Edinburgh to work.

- I would certainty use this link to get Edinburgh as I could work on the train which I can't do on the bus (as I get car sick). Taking the car to the east end of the city is very slow (and polluting). Long overdue. Under tha Climate Change Act whoever makes the decision on this will have to consider the climate change implications of not stopping in Clydesdale in terms of the effect on emissions.

- Well done Karen! There is no reason why rail links should not be improved to the capital to and from Clydesdale. We are pretty close to Edinburgh but we have to contend with rail services from the dark ages to the city!

- Working in Edinburgh and living in Lanarkshire, it is currently extremely difficult to commute except by car - both inconvenient and environmentally unfriendly due to the very poor availability of public transport.

- Direct public transport links from Lanark to Edinburgh are currently non-existent so to commute for either business or pleasure has to be done by car - the environmentally friendly option ?? - I don't think so
