It has come to the notice of several Livejournal users that it is not possible to list homeschooling groups in the "schools" feature on Livejournal.com, while at the same time, users can sign up to say that they are members of fictional schools such as Hogwarts, and St Trinians.
When contacted about this, Livejournal responded to one enquirer that
"The LiveJournal Schools Directory is intended to help those who attended the same school find each other on LiveJournal. As such, "Home School" listings and home-schooling groups are not permitted in the directory. You may wish to add this information to the Bio section of your profile instead.
Please note: fictional schools are admitted into the directory at the discretion of LiveJournal administration only, and are intended as an "easter egg" for those users who stumble across them. At this time, no new fictional schools are being admitted into the Directory."
This seems a gross insult to homeschoolers. In many countries, home education is overseen by regional groups - for example Education Otherwise, in the UK - and members of such groups often like to network and find one another. Homeschooling is becoming increasingly common, and accepted.
Therefore, why shouldnt homeschoolers be allowed to find one another via thier regional groups/organisations, in just the same manner as those who have attended a "traditional" school or university?
Therefore, we, the undersigned, would like to be able to use the schools feature also, to network in the same way as those people at traditional educational establishments, and would appreciate a postive response from Livejournal on this subject.

- Homeschool groups function much like schools. I think that any valid homeschool group that has membership should be allowed to register as a school on LJ.

- I am very interested in being able to find others on Livejournal who had the same schooling experience as I did. Please make "homeschool" a valid school option.

- Homeschoolers also enjoy networking with others who share their educational background!

- justifying fictional schools which have given no education at all, and yet excluding home schooling totally idiotic. it's a real form of education and should be included.
