A petition to repeal the unfair banning of the responsible use of metal detectors in Louisville Metro Parks

Dear Mr. Mayor,
We the undersigned appeal to you to reconsider the unfair banning of the responsible use of metal detectors in Louisville Metro Parks.
This ban was placed upon local hobbyists without fair representation from them or their elected council members.
Staff members of the Metro Parks Department did not invite nor allow any members of the metal detecting community to address any questions or concerns regarding the hobby.

Furthermore, we the undersigned will make every effort NOT to spend any tourism dollars in city of Louisville until this unfair regulation is lifted.

    • Please reconsider your ban as it affects many senior citizens and handicapped individuals. With proper rules in place, metal detecting is a non-destructive activity.

    • Louisville PD should work with local MD'ers to help recover crime scene weapons. PDs and MD'ers make great partners.

    • I like visiting Louisville, KY several times a year, however if the city has seen fit to discriminate against the hobby of metal detecting on public lands within the city, I must move my visits and business elsewhere I bring to Louisville. It would seem that Louisville city fathers are not using good ole' common sense here, for if the Army Corps of Engineers has allow this activity since 1989 on their properties in designated areas from coast to coast; and 38 states in the USA allow it in their state parks in designated areas, then this comes down to nothing more than discrimination against on enjoyable national hobby that creates no harm to land or foilage than a dog does when walked thru the park; detectorist do cover up their dibits they dig and haul away any trash dug or found in the parks by whomever left it there orginally and place such trash found in it's proper container. Even a afternoon golfer leaves more dibits uncovered in parks areas with little or no concern as to the looks or damage done.
