Give Adoption Rights for Pit Bulls At The P.S.P.C.A!!

We are devoted dog lovers and are horrified to learn that the Pennsylvania Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Erie Philadelphia will destroy every dog that is a Pit bull, Pit bull mix, or even just resembles an Amercian Terrier! Every Pit bull that enters the shelter no matter the age, temperment or health is a dead dog walking! The only way out of the PSPCA is out the back door wrapped in a trash bag. To euthanize a dog for it's breed because of the rumors and media hype is outrageous and absurb. Pit bulls are very sweet devoted animals. The PSPCA should give friendly Pit bulls a chance just like other breed. The PSPCA should end this unfair rule that all pits must die and let them have a chance to be adopted to good well qualified familes. The PSPCA should do a strict home check on potential adopters for Pit bulls for safey reasons for both dog and family. Please ban these unjustified deaths of these innocent wonderful dogs which out passed the Retriever in Temperment Tests! Please PSPCA, Reconsider and change your law, there are many Pit bull people who love their dogs and if they are forced to give them to you at least give them a chance at life.

    • I think it is very stupid that just because these animals are marked "vicious" doesn't mean it regards ALL pitties or any type of bulldog or pit or pit mixes or pit look alikes!!! I have a rescue pit/dalmation mix and he was a christmas gift, and the best one i have ever recieved!!! He is the sweetest animal in the world and i have met MANY other pitties and have had QUITE a few....these animals are just the same as a golden retriever or a dalmation....just with a bad rep that humans have made on them....pities are only fighters when they are bred and trained since puppy hood to be!!!!! Not all pitties or any dog for that matter should be "labeled" agressive just because stupid idiots make the wrong choice and fight their animals......it's the humans that breed these animals and fight them that should be labeled "agressive" because it's their stupidity that makes these dogs have a bad rep!!! These dogs should be given a chance, not killed because they are labeled "agressive"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • I am very proud to say that I own 6 wonderful Pitbulls. I can't say enough about my dogs. They are the most loyal, loving, affectionate animals I have ever had, and I have had many in my lifetime. What you are doing is so wrong. I wish you could spend just one hour with my dogs. I would bet you anything, they would change your way of thinking that just because of a few that turn out bad, that all should be destroyed. I would move out of your state before I'd let anyone kill my dogs. No way would I let that happen. They are a part of my life.

    • Although I am not a resident of Pennsylvania, my father grew up there and I have many friends and relatives in your state. When my father was young, the American Pitbull Terrier was the all American Family dog -- because of it's fantastic disposition with people. Nowadays many unscrupulous people have misbred, mistreated and tortured some of these wonderful dogs for the purpose of making a quick buck one rotten way or another. The majority of Pitbulls and Pitbull type dogs are still gentle and people loving, albeit requiring responsible, educated owners. All Breed specific legislation is wrong... automatic killing because of breed is a crime.

My year old male was severely abused by his previous owner and my 3 year old female was less than a day away from being put to sleep at a shelter because a teenage girl decided one morning that she didnt want her anymore. Without kind hearted people looking over these two before I got them they would have been just another shelter staticPlease allow the wonderful breed have a chance at life like both of mine did

    • I agree, I just bought a two year old female pitt and she is precious. I got her from an adoption farm in New Jersey. She has been just like a best friend. Yes, she is proctective, but of her new home and her new owner. I always had a dog in a home with me from child hood to now but, I never had an experience with a pittbull due to the rumors I heard. I do know one thing if I ever have to get another dog it would be a pitt.
