Dear Mr. Selig,

Baseball is Americas Game, and statistical records are a big part of why fans have had a love affair with the game. There are no more important Major League Baseball records than the single season home run record and the lifetime home run record. In the past, any baseball fan was able to quote Roger Maris single season record of 61 home runs and Henry Aarons lifetime record of 755 home runs. This was baseball lore passed on from generation to generation.

More recently, these hallowed records have been surpassed by the allegedly, chemically induced muscle men Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds. First, the single season record smashed by both McGwire (70 home runs) and Sosa (66 home runs) in 1998, and then by Bonds (73 home runs) in 2001. Next, the lifetime record broken by Bonds (762 home runs) in 2007.

As any reasonably thinking baseball fan knows, these new records are not legitimate. This is knowledge also held by the parties involved (McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds), and by you Mr. Selig, the caretaker of our great game. In order to restore a national sense of joy and pride in Americas Game, it is time for Major League Baseball to restore these records to their rightful owners.

We are asking that effective immediately the single season home run record of 61 home runs be given back to Roger Maris, and the lifetime record of 755 home runs be given back to Henry Aaron.

    • It's not right the way these records were broken! Just think there NEVER will be a homerun race. So many times it is so exciting to watch basebell when one particular players is on pace to break the homerun record. Now that will never be part of baseball again because of these drug inhanced records. Please restore the intregity of the game. The FANS and the GAME deserve it. Thank you.

    • I too, believe this needs to be done. I feel like I was played for a sucker by McGuire and Sosa. As for Bonds, I already had enough reasons to root against him! And, all the other players who have been proven to be "under the influence" should have asterisks placed next to their season and/or career totals stating "No longer recognized as place holders".

    • You, Mr. Selig, have done more to harm this nation than any person in the history of sports. You have raised the act of cheating from a disgrace to a virtue.

    • Mr. Maris' record should stand. To allow the current record to stand is a fraud and a blackeye to baseball.
