I understand today's vital need to conserve energy and I therefore support the efforts of the Montgomery County Student Environmental Activists towards achieving Grid Neutrality in the Montgomery County Public Schools. A Grid Neutral school is one that produces enough of its own clean, sustainable energy to run the facility. The world is dependent on a diminishing fuel supply and the future economy will rely on the alternative energy sources that Grid Neutrality will introduce into the school system.
I believe that...
1) Converting Schools to a system that produces zero net energy will be a fundemental step towards reducing the general carbon footprint of Montgomery County.
2) Schools are good candidates for conversion to grid neutrality because of their large flat roofs and low one to two-story structure. They provide optimal space for solar panels and other energy conserving innovations.
3) As schools educate the nation's new generations, such a positive step toward a healthy and sustainable society will teach practical conservation techniques to public school students.
4) The projected cost savings are monumental. In California where Grid Neutrality is being implemented, schools are expected to save more than $21.5 million annually once the goal of Grid Neutrality is reached.
Immediate action toward resolving the environmental crisis will improve the life of everyone in Montgomery County. Grid Neutrality in the school system will be an epic step in this direction. By signing this petition I am supporting MCSEA's efforts to get there.
