We, the undersigned, the peace loving, humanitarians and the admirers of the noble work of Congressman Mickey Leland in the United States and from nations around the globe, are requesting that starting this year, August 7th, 2010 be designated and recognized as Congressman Mickey leland Global Day On World Poverty and Peace. Congressman Mickey Leland and those 8 Americans and 7 Ethiopians who lost their lives in a plane crash on August 7, 1989 while on a flight to a refugee camp on a humanitarian mission in South-Western Ethiopia where, 50,000 Sudanese refugees , including 17,000 displaced children were being.
