We, the undersigned, call upon the government of the United States of America to adopt standards for mold contamination in our homes, rental properties, schools and workplaces; to create laws requiring the disclosure of mold problems, both past and present, to potential home owners and renters nationwide; to research more fully the health issues related to mold and treatment options; and to create a standard of habitability for the buildings in which we live, learn, and work which includes mold as a public health concern.

We call for legislation that will hold all states to adhere to a policy that mold in our buildings is unsafe, and is an issue that will not go ignored.
We call for legislation that will allow both home owners and renters to be informed of the past or present contamination of mold in a building or home. We also ask that renters have the same state and federal resources for mold inspection available to them as home owners do in many states, including inspection and evaluation of mold problems within a rental property without recourse. We ask that before a property may be certified for rental, it includes inspection standards for mold.

We call for legislation that requires schools and workplaces to be evaluated for mold contamination and routinely inspected. We ask that these services will be provided to protect our children, employees, and businesses from the dangers of mold contamination, and that a standard is created for exposure. We ask that parents, students, and employees are informed about past or present mold issues in their schools and workplaces.

We call for legislation which protects ourselves and our fellow citizens from the dangers of daily exposure to mold in our homes, schools, and workplaces. We call for the action of our elected officials and leaders to help us in creating a safer nation without risk of our buildings making us ill.

    • Have you been affected by mold in your home, rental unit, school, or workplace?
    • yes, i am so ill, that i cannot work, have been so sick and suicidal. i have lost everything because i have had to move so much and you cannot take anything with you that was contaminated, so i am financially devastated. i have also had a helluva time finding rentals that do not have mold-ie. mold that is not evident, like in the rugs or behind walls, that can render an already susceptible person completely unable to function. there must be much, much higher standards of materials used in construction and in the upkeep of rentals and public spaces. i have done better in places that had a steel infrastructure rather than what most residences are built with. there needs to be aid and funding for disaster relief for people who's lives have been financially dismantled by mold contamination, and high quality mold- preventive housing for those who need to heal from the physiological damage.

    • We had to evacuate our dream home in May, 2006 because of multiple construction defects that led to water intrusion and amplification of three species of toxic mold. We all suffered health problems related to living in the home that we bought brand new in 2001 (asthma, sinusitis, fatigue, myalgia, headaches, skin rashes). We are still in litigation with the builder, have lost the home to foreclosure, and are financially wiped out. We no longer have an attorney because we ran out of money. The civil court system has been more traumatizing that losing our home and we are coming to the sad realization that we cannot afford justice. We were shocked to learn that banks/mortgage companies do not have to disclose (defects, mold, etc.) in a foreclosure sale! The openings in the walls in our home were closed up and painted over and we just learned that someone recently purchased the home. There are Lemon Laws to protect buyers of automobiles, but there are no protections in place for homebuyers! CRAZY!

    • Have a Mold Inspection Remediation Co. done so much research this is SERIOUS. The State needs to regulate it and the Idiots that are going around pouring bleach on it which does NOT work can aid in its growth and are making a fortune off the public.
