The NHL is in disarray. Over expansion into non lucrative markets and refusal to move teams have destroyed the league.

Many teams don't even qualify for the minimum 14,000 average attendance in order to qualify for their share of the revenue-sharing pool. Teams are forced to pad ticket sales and the collective agreement is bankrupting teams by forcing small market teams to spend a minimum of 41 million.

But despite these facts, Gary Bettman refuses to allow teams to move to more lucrative markets in Canada and the Northwest United States.

The goal of this petition is to bring attention to the issues and to call for the resignation of Gary Bettman before he destroys the NHL.

    • You've had your chance and blew it, Bettman. Your fantasy of southern states embracing hockey has vanished. Not enough people in the south care about hockey. All they truly care about is football, baseball, basketball, and cars going around in circles all day long. You'd rather let teams like Tampa, Florida, and Nashville (cmon, Gary, seriously. Nashville??) bleed money than save that money and give it to places like Hartford, Quebec, and Hamilton where hockey belongs. What makes you think that the South, where ice doesnt form naturally for more than a day, is going to give a rats rear end about hockey? All youve done is hurt the fans because of your pie-in-the-sky dreams of making the NHL popular in the south. That will never happen. This is the NHL, Commissioner, not the NBA. Step away from hockey before one more tear is shed, and leave those of us who do care about hockey in peace.

    • To have two teams in Greater California and say that SW Ontario can't support three teams is ridiculous. Further there is no other industry where companies can be run like bankrupt NHL teams. Clearly there is no market for hockey in hot weather locales such as Phoenix or Nashville. While I'm at it - bring back the Jets and Nordiques!
