On August 1, 1981, at 12:01 a.m., MTV: Music Television launched with the words "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll," spoken by John Lack. Those words were immediately followed by the original MTV theme song, a crunching guitar riff written by Jonathan Elias and John Petersen, playing over a montage of the Apollo 11 moon landing. MTV producers Alan Goodman and Fred Seibert used this public domain footage as a conceit, associating MTV with the most famous moment in world television history.[5] At the moment of its launch, only a few thousand people on a single cable system in northern New Jersey could see it...

August, 1 2008 only 28 years later MTV is viewed by millions and millions of people around the world. Dire Straits once said "I want my MTV" and well that is all we want too. MTV which at one point in time actually stood for MUSIC TELEVISION has since ceased to exist. What happened to the music? why must we (the viewing public) deal with almost 24/7 reality shows? When MTV launched "The Real World" 1992 it was innovative and we watched, little did we know that The Real World would go on to destroy what we loved most about MTV...The Music.

I am not asking for MTV to de-evolve back to what it was in 1981, as evolution is part of life but how about a new channel not like MTV2 was a channel but a channel that shows MTV's history and everyday you choose a different day from the first 20 years of MTV and show all the videos and shows that were played at that time. I think that something like that would be a hit with people of my generation, the ones who supported MTV during it's early years, and just maybe you might find out that we don't want to see "The Hills" repackaged as "The real OC" or some other garbage, we want our MTV as we remember it...mostly music, with a little show thrown in here and there.

MTV had some of the best music related shows that spoke to every genre that mattered. I know you should know your history but in case you forgot here is some of what we miss most...

VJ's...real VJ's not just whomever is standing around
120 Minutes
Headbangers Ball
Yo! MTV RAPS
MTV Jams
I know Colin Quinn is available bring back Remote Control
Liquid Television
Animation like Beavis and Butthead...or just start playing Bavis and Butthead again.
Go back to the beach house in the summertime
hell go to the Mountains in the winter also
but most importantly play music like before


Please think about this and bring back what we love we just want music, new, old, classic, call it whatever you would like.
