We the undersigned, wish to protest against the unneccessary axing of the actor Mark Wingett, and his character Jim Carver, from The ITV1 television series "The Bill", and to demand his reinstatement. Mark is one of the two longest serving members of the cast and has given half of his life to the programme and we feel this decision seriously lacks the dignity and respect that he so deserves. He is an incredible actor and to lose him from our TV screens will be an massive loss to fans and casual viewers alike, who believed that the characters recent marriage to June Ackland as played by Trudie Goodwin marked the start of a new era for the character which would continue for a long time to come

    • This is a travesty and a shock to many. It is the worst decision that could possibly be made regarding the future of The Bill and I believe marks the beginning of the end for a once great show.

    • Don't get rid of Mark please!! He's a brilliant actor and doesn't deserve being axed after spending nearly half his life in "The Bill". The show won't be the same without him and will lose viewers because of this!!!

    • Mark has a history including Quadrophenia, Breaking Glass, Private Schulz, The Professionals, theatre work, as well as The Bill. He was in CID with Burnside when the programme was gritty and really about the Police and he gives the show credibility by reminding people that it wasn't always a soap. Getting rid of Mark is a sign that those making the decisions have lost the plot.

    • I think the axeing of jim is detromental to the series and would affect the future of the show.he has been in it since the start and rather than axeing old cast you should be bringing some of them back. the show wont be the same without him.

    • I can't believe that Jim Carver is being axed. Mark Wingett is a great actor & his scenes with Trudie Goodwin are always a pleasure to watch. If the producers want to axe a male character then I'd suggest PC Kent (who has far outlived his shelf life), DI Manson (who has about as much personality as a tin of carrots) or DC Thatcher (whose storylines with The Radfords and setting up Okaro are rapidly becoming very tedious)

    • Mark should be staying not being axed there are a few names i could mention who need to be axed and mark is not one of them. If its true about him leaving and then one certain cast member leaves i will not be watching the bill.

    • Mark Wingett's given 21 years loyalty and hard work to The Bill. He deserves recognition, not being given the axe. Can't see any logic to this decision.

    • The way PM has treated the show and its stars over the past few years has been disgraceful. The Bill was originally a show with respect and honour, something those in the force even enjoyed and commented upon with regards to its attempts at realism. Now it's lost all credibility in the ITV's shameless attempt to match Channel 4 and 5's "Yoof" success and, as a result, lost sight of the qualities which made it a success in the first:place: if we want popcorn sensationalism, we'll tune into Family Affairs on 5. The lesson here PM, which has been shouted at you time and time again from numerous popular and respectable fan arenas such as billfans.com, is if it ain't broke don't fix it.

    • Mark has shown commitment and loyalty to this show, i would have hoped that you would have had more respect for Mark who as part of your team for 21 years, has enabled you to have the ratings that you want.
