We are deeply concerned about reports of outside interference into the tenure and promotion case of Dr. Norman Finkelstein, and that as a result he may not be awarded tenure from DePaul University.

One such report is:
Harvard Law Professor Works to Disrupt Tenure Bid of Longtime Nemesis at DePaul U.

We value Dr. Finkelstein's scholarship, his public talks and debates,
and his well-argued, fact-based critiques of issues relating to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In our opinion, his association with DePaul University has enhanced DePaul University's reputation.

We understand his department has recommended tenure. We will be troubled if Dr. Finkelstein is denied tenure and will be concerned about the integrity of the tenure process at DePaul University.

We support a fair tenure process for Dr. Finkelstein.

    • 'The friends of freedom and human right through the world will wish him God-speed'. Thus congratulated Lloyd George Churchill on his succession to the Premiership. How well the sentiment applies to Norman Finkelstein.

    • Whether NF is one's cup of tea or not, one must of course support his right to speak and write that which he believes to be true. Those who would silence him are indeed enemies of the freedom of the mind, intent on imposing their opportunistic ethnocentric misery on others. A thought; he would probably have acquried tenure at an Israeli university long ago. Let's face it, Israelis are made of tougher stuff than American Jews.

    • Dr. Finkelstein should consider changing his name to Dr. Fink. That's exactly what this stinker is. My father's family was wiped out in the Holocaust. They fled to Poland when the Anschluss took place in Austria in March of 1938. We don't know what happened to them. How dare Dr. Fink deny the holocaust took place. What kind of Jew is he? He ought to be ashamed of himself. He is nothing more than a mishugana and traitor. Let him go live in Palestine with the other animals. He should have lived in their filthy refugee camps circa 1948. Our people attempted to help them but instead were attacked. Dr. Fink must be some charlatan. His anti-Semitic classes must be memorable.

    • How odd that the Finkelstein/free speech deniers are seized by moral panic whenever they're called to account for their doings. They are silly billys and are hereby sentenced to hard work on a kibbutz for two years, which could put a damper on their addiction to Israel. Fairness and justice for Finkelstein!

    • It is sad that this should be necessary. As a Catholic involved in public and academic work I am sorry to see Mr Donohue of the Catholic League taking it upon himself to smear Dr Finkelstein as part of a cmpaign to try and ensure that his tenure process is unfair.

    • There is only one reason Dr. Finkelstein's tenure bid is in jeopardy. Dr. Finkelstein trenchantly, passionately, and bravely, yet in a throughly scholarly manner (as attested to by such renowned scholars in the area as Raul Hilberg and Avi Shlaim) documents and exposes the fact that Zionism and Israel have oppressed the Palestinian people horribly, that this oppression is ongoing, unremitting, and intensifying, and that justice demands its recognition and remedy. A powerful and reactionary trend in US political thought considers such thoughts dangerous and intolerable. Fearing the power of these ideas, they seek to silence them and make them taboo. Hence Professor Dershowitz's campaign to prevent publication of The Holocaust Industry and to deny Dr. Finkelstein tenure. It is crucial for freedom of thought in America that this campaign to silence dissent be defeated. Grave questions of war, peace, justice and the future of our democracy are at stake. Rise to the occasion and be fair in your decision.

    • For what is a man profited, if he gain the world but lose his own soul? Matthew 16:26. What will DePaul University gain if it curries favor with the thought police of the powers that be and betrays the soul of academic freedom and American freedom of speech? Stand up for academic freedom and our First Amendment. Say no to or simply ignore those who seek to silence all criticism of Israel. Don't chain up this Prometheus of learned American political discourse. Give this outstanding scholar a fair hearing.

    • I am an adjunct professor at the University of Hawaii and in recent years have become broadly informed about the Israel-Palestine situation in general and Prof. Finkelstein's efforts in that regard. As an academic, I am aware that tenure consideration is an internal affair within a college or university. So as someone who is not part of DePaul University's community, Prof. Dershowitz' efforts to stop DePaul from granting Prof. Finkelstein tenure are unusual and must bear an extraordinary and urgent reason for him to do so if they are to be credible. I have read both Dershowitz' The Case for Israel and Finkelstein's Beyond Chutzpah. It seems clear that Dershowitz is primarily motivated by a desire to continue their running argument by means of invading the home territory of his antagonist in an inappropriate way. I very much hope that DePaul University will rebuff Prof. Dershowitz and the small minority at DePaul who seek to sideline Prof. Finkelstein primarily because he has spoken out as he has.

    • It was Dr Finkelstein who first exposed the harlotries and swindles of Goldhagen, Dershowitz and the US-Jewish shakedown of the Swiss banks. No wonder the Israeli Fifth Column death squads are after his blood. He's on to them. Tenure for this brave and splendid scholar!

    • The tone and character of the jihad against Prof Finkelstein is actually rather like that of the Germans in the 1930's who wanted to rid their public institutions of Jews. And it can't happen here.....? Never again...? Are we intended to look the other way this time because it's Jews against a Jew? Anyone with a pretense to decency must stand up and be counted, with Fairness and Justice for Norman Finkelstein as our watchword.

    • Norman Finkelstein's scholarship has won acclaim from the top experts in the field, from the world-renowned Holocaust expert Raul Hilberg to Oxford University's Professor of Mideast Studies Avi Schlaim-it would be horrific if this university were to give in to a disgraceful but all-too-predictable campaign of lies from the usual suspects. Anyone who wants to know if Finkelstein is a good scholar or not should ask the experts who have reviewed his books-the worlds leading academics in the field have all spoken of their admiration for him. Denying him tenure will give, not only Dershowitz, but all other special-interest groups, a green light to use their power to bully other Universities and institutions across the country into making redundant anyone who disagrees with them. This is a moment of truth for academic freedom and everyone hopes that truth and the principles of academia and learning win over intimidation. The example DePaul sets could be crucial for all future cases involving academic freedom.

    • Too many of our Jewish citizens love the Nazi final solution not wisely but too well. Indeed, it has become their religion. Now they pour out bile and prejudice against Norman Fineklstein but have no solid intelligent points to bar his tenure. Time for a blast of common sense, to call a spade a spade. The lunatics must not be allowed to run the asylum. Fairness for Finkelstein must be taken for granted.
