We are deeply concerned about reports of outside interference into the tenure and promotion case of Dr. Norman Finkelstein, and that as a result he may not be awarded tenure from DePaul University.
One such report is:
Harvard Law Professor Works to Disrupt Tenure Bid of Longtime Nemesis at DePaul U.

We value Dr. Finkelstein's scholarship, his public talks and debates,
and his well-argued, fact-based critiques of issues relating to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In our opinion, his association with DePaul University has enhanced DePaul University's reputation.
We understand his department has recommended tenure. We will be troubled if Dr. Finkelstein is denied tenure and will be concerned about the integrity of the tenure process at DePaul University.
We support a fair tenure process for Dr. Finkelstein.

- While in most cases those who are not speaking out for 9/11 truth have no business teaching in our universities, much less being tenured, the otherwise courageous Dr. Finkelstein may be an exception

- Situation has stooped too low. Denying a son of Holocaust survivors tenure because of a political stance is shameful to say the least and an early sign of totalitarianism

- I am disgusted on multiple level at Finkelstein's denial of tenure, when he should have made full professor a decade ago at any university. It is entirely predictable when administration of a major university is entrusted not to an academic, but to a vocationally-trained administrator whose first allegiance is not to inquiry but to a bronze-age text. Shame on DePaul!

- The traditional role of universities is to let inquiring minds as that of N .F free to speak and to teach students independant thinking

- When scholars the stature of Norman Finkelstein are denied tenure, times are bad. If this can happen, then so can book burning. Remember how it all began in Germany!

- Dr Finkelstein's contribution to scholarship internationally has been exemplary. He has had only a few detractors, the known plagiarist, a certain Mr. Alan Dershowitz being one of them.

- Dr. Finkelstein separates facts from myths - an essential step in solving any conflict, including the Israel-Palestine one. Sadly AIPAC and other power brokers do not appreciate such people. It is sad that DePaul U listens to them instead of appreciating the great work Finelstein courageously does.

- I feel DePaul is hurting the education offered to students by refusing tenure to Dr. Finklestein. Education is about different points of views and being faced with different points of views regardless if the views are popular or not. It is up to the students to make an informed decision on what they are going to believe, but by letting Dr. Finkelstein go, De Paul students are only going to hear the more popular view and therefore not be able to make an informed decision and the institution of education suffers. DePaul should be above social pressures.

- This country was built on the foundation of free speech. Please respect Dr. Finkelstein's right to freedom of expression and cease this politically-motivated persecution of a great thinker!
