We all know that our state is in debt. Things need to change, and soon, before things get too out of control and our state goes bankrupt. By changing the NJ STARS program requirements, the money saved will only relieve a tiny portion of our state debt. It still leaves another growing problem hanging- the growing cost of higher education. By putting a cap on the family income, the student who would qualify would be more likely to receive money from the federal government through FASFA, which would be about the same as cutting the program altogether. For some students, the NJ STARS scholarship is a saving grace when they are not eligible for need based financial aid. Less students will stay in New Jersey, which is one of the reasons the program was started. Keep allowing our NJ STARS to shine!

- Please keep the NJ STARS program. Taking it away would only discredit the hard work of all students in NJ. To alter or take the scholarship away from those who are already established in the STARS program, such as myself, would be completely unfair. I have worked extremely hard for academic excellence during my past two years at CCM. I chose to attend TCNJ in the fall under the assumption that NJ STARS II program would be in effect. To now hear that the program is in jeopardy is extremely nerve-wracking and frustrating. I would not be able to attend TCNJ if STARS II didn't cover the tuition costs. To inform all students of possible changes to the program, at such a late date--when we've already accepted admissions to NJ STARS II schools--is completely thoughtless and downright unfair. All STARS students have earned their place in the program and deserved to receive what has been promised to them. The program is truly a wonderful gift for academic success. Gifts should not be rescinded once given.

- Removing the NJ Stars program would be very unfair to students like me who have worked very hard to maintain this scholarship. This scholarship was a great opportunity for my parents because they have three other daughters going to college after me. If they have to start paying my tuition as well, then things will get even harder for them.

- NJ Stars is the only way my father has been able to pay for my nursing school with my brother also in college and my sister in 11th grade. I know many families that would have to put their children's schooling on hold (even permenantly) without the Stars program.

- The NJSTARS is one of the best scholarship programs, not only for New Jersey, but would benefit any state. It gives incentive for high school students to work hard, and keeps continuing college students working hard in their academics throughout their college career.
