The purpose of this petition is to voice recreational fishers strong objection to the creation of any further Marine Park within NSW.

Protecting biodiversity is not best served by locking anglers out of sanctuary zones but by implementing public works to restore water quality, halt siltation and to remove indiscriminate netting of the nursery areas, i.e. the estuaries.

Recreational fishing has immediately improved when estuaries such as Botany Bay, Sydney Harbour and Lake Macquarie are protected by removal of commercial fishing.

We call on the NSW State Government and local councils to unequivocaly state that additoinal Marine parks will not be implemented

    • I support the effort to maintain the fish stocks of NSW, however I beleive this is the wrong way to go about it.

    • This is a rediculous proposal. The do-gooder greenies should be trying to take it up to the commercial industries and not the everyday recreational angler.

    • Commercial Fishing should be targetted, its the nets that cause the most environmental damage. Recreational fishermen already follow bag limits and release undersized fish, why should this group be disadvantaged and be locked out of their favourite fishing spots.

    • i will not vote labour if the marine parks are established.what is going to really damage the fish is pollution and commercial fishers.also i think we need more fisheries officers on the water.alot of anglers dont take home many fish.alot of anglers do alot of catch and release.i would rather pay extra for a fishing licence and see more fisheries officers and more public education and research like breeding fish.

    • please fix the many environmental issues and assess the viability of commercial fishing as priorities. Australians will never accep the closure of waterways sea and ocean to recreational fishing as healthy pass time for children adults and retired people. THere are several million rec fishers in Australia , a voice NOT to be ignored.
