Saturday nights on ITV during the autumn are solely about one thing: The X Factor.
Whether watching it with a takeaway, catching the performances as your getting ready to go out then madly trying to find a TV to catch the result once you're out, or simply drinking with mates at home - The X Factor makes Saturday night.
ITV do not move the show to a Sunday evening. Sunday nights are quiet and sleepy: people want warm dramas such as Wild at Heart. Furthermore, what aids making the X Factor so compelling is the speed in which the process takes place. At 6pm on a Saturday night the act will be singing with all to hope for by 9pm their dream may well be shattered.
From a viewers point of view: one will tune into catch the performances, and then keep ITV on in order to wait for the results. A move to a Sunday night could easily damage the shows which follow the X Factor. It may also be the case that leaving a 24 hour gap between the two shows will result in half interested people not caring. The casual viewer sees the performance, not that interested, but will stick around for an hour to see who goes just for the sake of it.
There are many other reasons why the show should stay on a Saturday (the show possibly being pre-recorded is a whole other issue). The below will enhance and give many other reasons.

- A move to Sunday for the results would significantly lessen the drama of the show. Also have you thought of those households where not everyone is a fan? Persuading a partner to put up with one night of X Factor is OK but two....Also lots of children watch the show, Sunday is just before a school day so earlier bedtimes could spoil it for them. - Its a family show and children can afford to stay up late on a Saturday as they have no school the next day. Childrens education is paramount so there for to put x factor on a Sunday would interfere with education. Why should our children be penalised when its not too often that we have a show that the whole family can become involved in. Think of our children...they love x factor and i love the quality time with my 9 year old daughter on a Saturday as i am a single working mum.
