We, The Undersigned, question whether a mega-loan is really the best solution to a problem that was brought about through myriad lesser loans that, as far as we understand, were given with irresponsible abandon to those who had not proven themselves capable of making good on these loans. Now the government is about to approve a plan that mirrors the same irresponsible lending that brought on the current situation.
It is time for Americans to start living up to the name and accept the consequences for our actions. Will innocent people get hurt if this loan is not approved? Most likely. But we, The Undersigned, though innocent of contributing to this crisis, feel that our country, with its excessive spending and massive debt, may be better served by facing this demon head on, come what may. If the consequences include another depression, let us face it honorably.
We believe that while the threat of poverty makes for a great bogeyman to scare the masses into submission, a potentially greater danger is facing us right now: the loss of our integrity and responsibility. This country's motto has never been the right to life, liberty and the receipt of happiness, but the pursuit thereof. Now is the time for us to once again learn all that the term "pursuit" entails.
