Public School Dress Code

I am a student in high school and I am witnessing some unfair acts. I recently heard that a public junior high school is adopting a dress code. This should not be allowed to happen. A letter was sent home to the students and parents telling them that they MUST wear khakis and polo shirts. No jeans or t-shirts, etc. are allowed to be worn to school!!
I went from store to store looking at the prices of these polo shirts and they cost good money!! Who the hell wants to pay for a fancy shirt to go to school?! This is not right. If a child does not have that much money to spare on clothing for the dress code they will most likely punish him/her somehow. Why should a child be punished for not having the money to buy the required clothing? This can ruin the education of a child just because they don't have the money.
And another thing: IT'S A PUBLIC SCHOOL!!! Why should everyone wear the same clothing? It relinquishes their right to say who they are and express their personality. Dressing to express your self is classified as a freedom of speech. Taking away the right of speech is a violation of the Bill of Rights, especially since its in a public school!!
So please take the time to sign this petition against having dress codes in public schools. If you hesitate to sign this petition, than your school or childrens school will adopt the dress code. Thank you for taking your time to read this. Please call the board of education in your area and tell them not to allow this unfair act. Thank you.

    • having uniforms is unfair and disciminating.it takes away our right to express ourselves as our own person.if we all look the same , and we all act the same , we will surely go through life as clones that have been run-down by todays education system!

    • yeah i live in wakulla florida and they're totally going against the handbook when it comes to dress code,it's getting ridiculous. they're just mad cus the school grade went down, dress code doesnt change anything. its the students who have to change their minds not their clothes!

    • Im from wakulla high school! We are required to wear something to cover the shoulders and that does not show cleavage that is atleast to your armpits!that is very hard for big busted girls and for the chicks that dont have boobs it shouldnt matter, Furthermore it also states that no over shirts and that no under shirts are allowed!! Basically they want us to wear turtle necks!!! I am a free spirited person and love to express myself through what I wear and how I look at school and in public...yes it is a distraction to boys but it keeps them in class and some of them dont really pay attention to what us girls wear but still we can make a comprimise on the dress code!

    • Public school does NOT cost money. You cannot make students pay for something in order to attend public school. If there is a problem with the students' clothes, adopt a new dress code, but let students wear their own clothes, unless they are obviously not appropriate for school (showing cleavage, sagging pants, gang attire, profanity).
