It is imperative to prevent the expansion of gambling into Long Island. We the undersigned wish to extend our dissatisfaction towards the notion of adding Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs) at Belmont Park, in Elmont, Long Island, New York. We urge all those pertaining to this manner to cease the avocation of VLTs.
We are concern of the social destruction of the surrounding communities, the effects of Long Island, and the precedent it will set. We are additionally concerned of the single-family residential suburban homes that surround Belmont Park and the negative influences VLTs may have to the nearby elementary schools, including one that is just 500 feet away.
Instead of VLTs, we wish to promote the preservation of one of the largest green space in Nassau County, and the culture and integrity of Long Island, by promoting the creation of a museum and cultural center at Belmont Park.

- Green spaces are vital to the balance of our environment. Gambling has so many adverse impacts to our society that I canot imagine why certain Americans continue to push for additional gambling venues. Do they never learn from our experience?

- Why use gambling as a way to make money for the state. The negative economic and social consequences are well documented through studies provided by many reputable groups and individuals such as The Erie County Citizens Against Casinos. Our children and their families, vulnerable elderly suffer from the addictive lure of VLTS. People I know say they just go to kill time - they get mesmerised and just keep gambling - losing savings - becoming impoverished. Then, we the taxpayers end up with a worse situation to deal with.

- Expanding gambling is absolutely the wrong strategy for economic development. We need good jobs at living wages that will enrich our communities, rather than suck wealth out of them and impoverish mnay families.

- I have seen the horses ignored at the Fort Erie track in Canada after the installation of gaming terminals there. And....we do not need more gambling facilities in this state. It has reached the point of absurdity.
