We, the individuals listed below, have electronically signed this petition with the goal of stopping SmithKline Beecham, the drug manufacturing company, from falsely marketing, advertising and soliciting the popular SSRI Antidepressent drug Paxil (or Seroxat).

SKB falsely advertises, through its Paxil labeling and otherwise, that only drug abusers are at risk of physical and psychological dependence, and withdrawal problems when tapering back or abruptly discontinuing Paxil usage. SKB knows such representations are false, and that all patients, including patients not having a history of drug abuse, are susceptible to withdrawal problems after tapering back or abruptly discontinuing Paxil.

SKB either knows or intentionally does not gather facts showing that massive numbers of Paxil patients are being addicted to Paxil.

SKB boasts to the public in advertising that Paxil's "half life" is good for the patient, that a short half life specifically refines brain chemistry and reduces side effects--but they fail to tell the public that Paxil's half life is bad for the patient in terms of addiction and withdrawal problems.

    • This drug is killing Americans and people from all over the world in mind, body and spirit. This drug is no more humanitarian than if one fed cyanide in a happy little pill to an unsuspecting and unfortunate child. IF A DRUG CAUSES SUICIDE, HOMICIDE AND DEATH, ISN'T IT ABOUT TIME TO REMOVE IT FROM THE MARKET?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

    • I am sitting here at 1:30 in the morning suffering in pain from the wonderful withdrawal symptoms from Paxil. Can't sleep, can't stand up long for fear of falling due to the dizziness and "zaps", can't really drive anywhere in that condition, either. Heck, I am a full-time college student, going back at the age of 34 to get my degree in teaching, and cannot keep up with the work because I feel so sick all the time, miss so much class time because of it, and its hard to get to school when you can't drive your car! Thanks, Paxil. This is turning into one hell of a ride.

    • Was Prescribed Paxil within weeks of a near fatal accident for symptoms of anger and headaches. Having a short term memory problem due to my TBI suffered in an accident 6 years ago, I have trouble remembering to take my Rx's. I can sometime miss for days at a time. The most recent miss was last week when i ran out and forgot to re-order before the Holiday weekend. i was off Paxil for 5 days. Within that period I suffered the most physical and pyschologilcally terrifying experiences of my life. First it started with the headaches, nausia, sweating and dizzyness and insomnia. When I eventually was able to sleep I experienced mind altering nightmares I have never experienced to that degree before in my life. It reached a point to where I am afraid to sleep anymore. it's 3:24am in No. California and I'm wide awake and haven't slept for nearly 43 hours. I decided after the third night of nightmares and experiencing the most horrifying series of them yet, to try and figure out what was causing these things(the nightmares)to go on nightly. By chance i entered the words PAXIL and Nightmares on my google and hit the search button. OMG, iIhad no clue. This is when I found out(on my own with never any help from a doctor)the unimaginable side effects PAXIL causes and that I was suffering from nearly ALL of them. I made an appointment Tuesday to see a new Doctor. i told him I was no longer going to take Paxil but needed to be weaned off of it. When I told him of my symptons he denied PAXIL casuing most if even any of the problems i was experiencing other than the weight gain, headaches and sweating. He tried to support PAXIL as a GOOD drug that helps people. When I explained to him why I was prescribed PAXIL, he reluctantly agreed with me it was the wrong thing to give me. While this doctor relentlessly defended PAXIL and drug companies morals and ethics , he did agree(like it was his choice?)to Rx me a plan that I have started this Wednesday to wean myself off of PAXIL. For years after my accident and brain injury, I blamed everything on myself. I thought maybe I had some underlying problem never before discovered that lie dormant inside of me that a moderate to severe brain injury was finally able to dig it out of me and bring it to the surface. The last several days have changed my opinion of this. PAXIL was my downfall. 6 years of hell, but now after finding out all of the evil things this drug does(without ANY help from a physician)I'm making a stand to take back my life. By the end of September 2008, I will have complted my last dose of PAXIL. I'm through dying. It's time for me to take back what's rightfully mine and make a stand..for my life!
