Nobody Beats The Wiz, Cablevision, The Knicks, The Rangers. What do these four things have in common? The Cablevision Empire runs them all. All have also been expensive, and had lacking value for the past few years.
The one saving grace in the Cablevision conglomerate has been Optimum Online. Many times over the last 2 years, I have referred to it as the best Internet Service Provider in America. At $40 a month, it was a fantastic value providing it's customers with speedy download and upload capabilities.
A few months ago, notice came that Optimum Online was going to raise it's monthly fee by $10. I'm sure there was some unhappiness at the rate increase, but I figured that the excellent service that they provided warranted it.
Less than a week after the rate increase, however. Optimum Online instituted a policy of capping its users bandwidth, if in their opinion they "uploaded too much."
Optimum, before this cap was instituted allowed upload speeds of about 12 times the speed of a dial up modem. When capped, users struggle to upload at TWICE dial-up speeds.
This capping of user's upload has changed Optimum Online from the shinning point in Cablevision's deteriorating monopoly, to just another service which they offer. This petition is not against any law. It is not against the rate increase. It is not against Cablevision's inability to provide the YES network to its customers. It IS about the fact that unless they reconsider this poor decision, customers will probably find a better deal on TV and Internet elsewhere.
Cablevision has the highest cable TV rates in the country, and is quickly spreading it's inefficiency not only to our local sports teams, but now to our Internet access. I urge it's customers to sign this petition, and let this monopoly know that it is in danger of losing the over $100 a month, per subscriber which it now collects for combines cable and internet services.

- You have no right to advertise "blazing download speeds" and "the ability to download MP3's lightning fast!", then penalize customers for utilizing the service.

- Your customers are paying for a service, and it is inappropriate for you to regulate their speeds, hindering their service.

- i'm all for throttling bandwidth for those that abuse the upstream channel but OOL needs to clearly define what constitutes "abuse" so people know when not to cross the line. it wastes my time an OOL's time everytime i have to call to lift a cap. perhaps the capping system shpuld be dynamic, meaning that if you had somehow "abused" the upstream bandwidth and capped as a result, the cap should lifted automatically in, say, a couple of days.

- If people pay for a service, they should receive the service they have paid for. It is unethical for a company to take away part of a paid service because a person took advantage of the service.
