There are no laws in the state of Tennessee to protect animals in pet shops. In most cases this results in neglect and abuse of the animals. Appropriate testing and treatment is not required for such conditions as Feline Leukemia/HIV, worms, fleas, ticks, and other parasites. This is a health hazard, not only for all the animals in the pet store, but also the people who come into contact with the animals in the pet store, which otherwise jeopardizes the health of these peoples' pets. Please help us protect the animals in these stores by helping enforce laws that ensure the proper testing and treatment in the state of Tennessee.

- This is truly an issue that needs attention. There are laws against animal abuse and neglect, how is this any different? If one neglects to care for a sick animal that they own, they can face serious consequences and fines. Why is it okay for a pet store, who holds responsibility for all the animals in their care, to do the same with no consequence? The testing and prevention of parasites and other known sicknesses would not only be HUMANE, but it would also help to prevent the spread of these illnesses to other pets in the home that has purchased an animal. Parasites such as roundworm and ringworm can be spread to people as well as other animals. Not only endangering the health and well being of the pet but also the health and well being of anyone who comes into contact with the infected animal. This is NOT okay . This is an issue with a simple solution. PASS THE LAW!!
